Re: Will I have to repurchase EA Play for Steam?

I have an annual EA Play Origin membership.  Will I be able to switch the remaining months I have over to the Steam platform since they are the same price?

But to confirm - EA Play Pro is unique to Origin.

So to confirm, It's just EA Play on Steam. There isn't a EA Play Pro variant, and no other naming.

About interconnectivity - if you play on Steam, you'll still have your EA account linked, so Origin will know which games you have on on Steam. I'd like to add I think how you went about investigating is great; the best way to see how it works is to browse both your Steam and Origin libraries.

EA Play is the same across all platforms, so Origin, Steam, Xbox and Playstation. The only differences are 1. Some games are made for console only so the PC users won't have access to those and 2. Origin offers 2 subscriptions, EA Play and EA Play Pro.

EA Play Pro is The old EA Access Premiere which is what you have and is exclusive to Origin likely due to the fees for each platform. Microsoft, Sony and Valve all take around a 30% cut of sales etc.

This is also likely why there is a separate subscription for each platform, because if you were to buy one subscription from say Origin and use it for all platforms then Microsoft, Sony and Valve would get zero funds from that and wouldn't allow it on their platform if that were the case.

I am a Pro subscriber and feel like I am being ripped off now. I've paid for a full year in advance so cancelling now would be a waste of my money. Now I am stuck with the Origin launcher which is loaded with bugs and errors even when not being actively used. When I first got an email from EA saying they were improving their service I actually thought that the Origin browser was finally getting a fix, not a lousy re-branding so that Valve would be okay with EA subscription service on their launcher. Seems obvious now, that Valve would not likely allow EA to promote their service by keeping the Origin Access name. By not allowing PC users to use their EA Play memberships across Origin/Steam, it just comes across as greedy. I do understand EA not allowing transfer between PS and Xbox but not across platforms that both reside on PC. I realize that EA Play on Origin has more offerings but Steam is a SUPERIOR launcher in every single regard!!! I was really on the fence about resubscribing this year. If I had known about this move prior I would not have bothered doing so. Hope this changes because this time next year if I am still stranded on the crappy Origin launcher I won't subscribe to either.

This isn't entirely down to EA. Valve, Sony and Microsoft all want fees to be paid on their platforms and if EA did a universal EA Play then people could buy EA Play from Origin, play it on all platforms and Sony etc would get nothing from it. If that were the case then none of the platforms would allow EA Play at all.

As for EA Play Pro, well the same applies except EA want you to use Origin, and EA Play Pro is the incentive to use Origin.

Will that ever be changed, as I purchased Origin Access (now EA play) to exclusively play Titanfall 2 and get 1000 apex coins for apex legends. Now that Titanfall 2 has been removed from origin Ea play but is still on the steam one i am wondering if I should just cancel my subscription or should I wait for any news.

Exactly, a universal subscription for consoles and pc with progress carryover is what everyone wants. But they don't seem to be even entertaining that idea.

@Real5me Titanfall 2 is still available on EA Play (Origin). EA has been upgrading the editions of several EA-published games on EA Play (Origin), which has triggered messages about these EA games being removed, but in actuality it is the standard editions of these EA games which are being removed (because they are being replaced by higher editions), not the games in their entirety. Some games have been cycling out of EA Play after a period of two years, but these have been third-party games, not EA-published games.

If you are seeing notice of Titanfall 2's removal from EA Play (Origin), but you can still play the game via EA Play (Origin), disregard the notice. If you are having issues accessing Titanfall 2 via EA Play (Origin), check to see if you have already been upgraded to the Ultimate Edition (including the Deluxe Edition) content on the Extra Content tab on the game's details page in your library. If that content has not been unlocked, you should be able to upgrade to it. If it has already been unlocked, you might need to clear Origin's cache. If clearing Origin's cache doesn't resolve the issue, you might need to uninstall the game and remove it from your library, then readd it to your library and reinstall it.

I agree it would be awesome to have a universal subscription including EA Play Pro, but how would they do it?

It's easy for EA to say 'hey buy this subscription from Origin and play all the games on any platform' but then how would the other platforms make money from that? This is why I say it's not entirely EA, they have to follow each platforms rules and if each platform don't make money from it then they won't allow EA to do it.

If Sony or Microsoft etc tried to stop them all they'd need to do is make it public as to what is happening and allow the public to judge who is right. I know that Sony and Microsoft want some profit but in the end the public decides what to buy and there's no saying that they can't work out a percentage based deal e.g. someone buys it on origin and activates it on Xbox Microsoft then get a cut otherwise 100% to EA.

Plus the public want cross platform games, and they want to play on a PC with incredible graphics and then sit on the sofa with friends for couch coop on the xbox/PlayStation. And until PC flushes out coop games it's still in the consoles hands but steam is doing good they have play together no with civ and mortal kombat etc so PC is closing the gap.

I like when EA says stuff is impossible and then you here stuff like this... I'm sure after a lot of profit has been made on steam sales of their subscription...

Just wanted to point out that the EA Play - 12 Month subscription is a sku on steam that EA has the ability to give to every current paying PC EA Play subscriber. That yearly subscription was pretty expensive. 

thats literally * crazy. Imagine if hulu charged you $9.99 per month for each different device you watched hulu on. Youre insane for not having cross subscription. Are you shocked when people say EA sucks?
