Unlink Xbox Gamertag

I am unable to unlink my Xbox Gamertag from an old EA account that has not been accessed in 8 years, as the email address for that EA account no longer exists. I have provided email verification from Xbox support / Microsoft indicating I am the owner of my Xbox Gamertag but EA support refuses to unlink without first recovering the old EA account.

I do not want or need access to the old EA account that I cannot recover. All I want is for my Xbox Gamertag to be unlinked so I can link it correctly to my real / used EA account. 

Support has not been able to provide any guidance on how to escalate this issue. Please advise if anyone else has the same issue or was able to resolve.

  • Sorry to say @Sassy_Jacc but if our live support team has advised you that they cannot assist then there is nothing that we can do to change this on AHQ>

    The best thing I can recommend is to gather as much additional info about your account as possible and speak with our support again.

    Hi @Sassy_Jacc 

    Unfortunately I see this a lot on these forums, and the sad thing is there is no way to change this unless you can access or verify the EA account that your Gamertag is linked to.

    Whilst Microsoft can verify you're the owner of the Xbox account, there is no way for EA to verify you're the owner because they don't have access to your Microsoft account information etc.

    To contact an EA adviser use the following link: https://help.ea.com/en/contact-us/

    Select Origin>Choose Platform>Manage Account and then choose the relevant topic or option and then select an available contact option

    EA needs to fix this ASAP. Many people are having similar issues and in the end all it does is lose paying customers' business. I will definitely no longer purchase or play EA games, and definitely will not get EA Play as a result as I cannot even use it because of this ridiculous rule / method of Gamertag recovery.

    Hey @Sassy_Jacc, I understand that you are frustrated but we take account security very seriously and if you are unable to access an account and unable to verify ownership of that account then our team will not be able to grant you access to the account or make any changes to it.

    What if I didn't authorize the account to link that Gamertag? Seems like that would be a big issue with security of just allowing any single sign in on an EA game to allow the Gamertag to be linked forever with no way of recovery without access to the EA account.

    Hey @Sassy_Jacc if the Gamertag was linked to an EA account then it means it was done either by you or by someone who you gave your account details to. 


    If our live support has avised you that there is nothing more that they can do to assist then I will be locking this thread.
