Will I have to repurchase EA Play for Steam?

I've been an Origin Access Basic (now EA Play) member for a while now, and I hear it is coming to Steam on the 31st. I was wondering if I will have to purchase the subscription separately on Steam, Or will current EA Play subscribers get access to the Steam version as well? I believe console and PC membership used to be a separate subscription (I am unsure if they still are), so I am wondering if this will operate similarly.

Update for those that stumble on this post for an answer:  As Tom has now confirmed, people that are currently using non-pro EA Play on Origin, that want to switch to Steam, will have to repurchase an entirely new subscription... At least it's cheap?

  • Hey folks,

A few things I can answer:

    • EA Play Pro is available exclusively on Origin.
    • We will deliver EA’s subscription service to Steam on August 31.
    • Our membership is available on each platform for $4.99, or regional equivalent. There is no cross platform subscription at this time.

If you have remaining questions, please let me know.

  • Just wanted to point out that the EA Play - 12 Month subscription is a sku on steam that EA has the ability to give to every current paying PC EA Play subscriber. That yearly subscription was pretty expensive.

thats literally * crazy. Imagine if hulu charged you $9.99 per month for each different device you watched hulu on. Youre insane for not having cross subscription. Are you shocked when people say EA sucks?

I have EA Play (Regular not Pro) and I am trying to play Command and Conquer Generals, but it is not on the EA Play launcher. However it is in Steam, and when I try to add it to my library, it tells me it is included in EA Play and wants me to purchase a new subscription. My EA account and Steam account are already linked, so I am confused why I am unable to add the game to my library if I already own EA Play which I have an annual subscription to.
