Xbox Game Pass vs EA account disaster

Hear me out and let me know if I'm being unreasonable here.

I have a long running EA account (like 7 years with countless games bought etc) that at some point, several years ago, I linked to a temporary Xbox gamertag that I used briefly for Xbox 360. Never used that Xbox gamertag again. Probably just for one game or something cause I had a borrowed Xbox 360. I didn't even remember I had that gamertag linked to my EA account.

Fast forward to today. I now have a proper, also long running, Xbox account on my PC, with Game Pass Ultimate, linked to my Microsoft account, Office, PC login, Onedrive all of it. I want to use EA Play (officially launched yesterday) with my Xbox Game Pass Ultimate on PC. But I cannot. Because my EA account, log in to which is required to use EA Play via Xbox Game Pass, was previously linked to currently unrelated, obsolete and forgotten Xbox gamertag back in 2014, under another email address.

So that means that I cannot take advantage of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate with EA Play on my PC because eons ago I had it linked to some old Xbox gamertag. Does that make sense? I contacted support and the person was like a broken record - "you can only have one Xbox gamertag linked to EA account in its lifetime". But why? I mean seriously - why can support not break the link and allow another Xbox gamertag? Delete the that old Xbox gamertag data for all I care. My goodness. What a disaster.

I know I can create a new EA account and play my EA games via Xbox Game Pass Ultimate but I already have a blooming EA account and want to keep progress and achievements of loads of games I played using my current EA account using EA Play subscriptions on Origin in the past. Am I being completely unreasonable here for thinking that this is a completely unnecessary obstacle?

Thanks for reading!

  • @dunny1g I just found this out today. This is absolutely a RIDICULOUS. Completely Nonsense limitation in today's world.

My money is being stolen from my at this point since the subscription is paid because they have this limitation not allowing me to use the service.

@Community leaders here, we get that you don't have the power to fix it but you Please for the love to all that is good in the world tell, Scream, GO TO THE OFFICE AND BANG ON THE DOOR OF the EA leadership this is absolutely insane that we can't switch Xbox/ or any accounts to this new EA Play they're trying to push on consumers now.

Everyone here that has this limitation made Xbox Live accounts in their Teenage years, we never would have thought now that we're in our 30s that this should freaking matter at all to use EA Play, a new service that should have new freaking rule structure and not be limited to super old technology limitations.

FIX THE ISSUE OR WE CANCEL SUB AND SHORT EA's STOCK
  • I'm running in to this issue as well.... I was unaware that EA Play was a part of Gamepass for a while but once I found out I went to link my account only to discover that my account is already linked to an Xbox account I have never owned....

  • Still an issue. Also Customer service is useless. Their solution is make a new EA account. Which further messes up the situation, why would creating multiple accounts to later be an issue be a solution?? So I have to have all my games split up to solve a fixable problem? Just change the gamertag link.

We own the account and the excuse to prevent fraud and phishing is weak. You shouldn’t punish your customers for the criminal activity on your platform, mainly caused by EAs bad design and no forward thinking.

  • RIdiculous how Rockstar and even Ubisoft let you unlink your steam/xbox/whatever accounts and link different ones, but EA is using this flawed system that literally helps nobody.

Say someone steals your origin account and links their steam/xbox/ps/ accounts, even if you get your origin account back it is now forever ruined. You're a genius EA
