Similar issue for me. I bought the game yesterday on Steam, installed and played it this morning the first time. Being a newbie to EA F1 games, I was so far only going to "F1 World", single player time trials, Monza, to get the feel for the car. Using Thrustmaster T248. This morning, I could play the time trials for maybe an hour, did quite some laps, no issues at all, got my first gifts/bonuses/etc. This afternoon, started the game again, time trials Monza again, and it is crashing in the first lap, latest 2nd lap consistently. Made sure I have the latest nVidia driver, no Win11 updates in the queue, did the "verify files" on Steam, did a reboot, nothing changed. Crashing after 1-2 laps consistently in the time trials now. Crash behavior: Suddenly during the lap audio stutters, picture freezes and the game crashes to the desktop, it's always the same crash behavior. I cannot play the game at all at the moment it seems. See attached dxdiag output. FYI, I did not change anything between morning and afternoon on the computer, just left it running (and played Farming Simulator 22 in between).
Edit: Just to add: I play a number of other games on this PC for I guess around 1.5 years and I never had any games crashing on my PC, ever.

Update: After spending my precious evening on learing on the million little things that obviously can make this game crash (wow, not sure if I've ever seen this for any game), I deleted the hardware_settings_config.xml file. Then I started the game again and could have around 8 laps without any crash. Then I ended the session as I am running out of time for today. But looks like the issue is gone, at least for now. We will see tomorrow when I try to have a longer session.
Quite crazy that a simple settings XML file of a game installed some hours ago is able to crash the game DURING a lap (not at startup when it tries to load the settings or so ...), in case this was really the reason.
I'll keep you posted tomorrow on any conclusions. I also have some funny behavior of the game with regards to my various game controllers attached (flight stick, etc.), plus the usual issues with force feedback (T248), but I'll first read through any available info before opening a new error or discussion. Obviously spending more hours of my rare and precious spare time on troubleshooting when all I want is just to have some fun and play a game ... again, I have around 30 games in my Steam library and no issue with any of these at all. My PC runs stable like a rock for 1.5 years meanwhile. Well, until F1 23 came.

Thanks for that tip. Did you have to setup all the in-game settings again?
Let me know if you continue to play without the issue.

Okay, slowly there is a pattern.
This morning I started the PC, started F1 23 and went to the Settings to try deal with something else. Adjusted the controller settings. Then started the usual F1 World time trial and, like clockwork, on the 2nd lap it crashed. So I removed the hardware settings XML file again, started the game, started the F1 World time trial. Was running smoothly, no crash. Then again adjusted some controller settings under "Options", exited the game, restarted the game, started the F1 World time trial and again on the 2nd lap it crashed. Again removed the hardware settings XML file, started the game, started the F1 World time trials, and no crash (played for 15-20mins).
So it looks like each time you change some controller settings, it causes the game to crash later when racing (really, really weird) and removing the hardware settings XML file resolves the issue. As it is so clearly reproducable, I am curious why it is so difficult for the EA developers to identify the root cause and fix it.
As far as I can tell, after removing the hardware settings XML file, I only had to re-adjust the graphics settings (resolution, etc.). The drive assist settings and controller / buttons settings were kept, luckily. Can't say anything about other settings as I haven't changed them yet.
