Re: f1 2024 PSvr2

@ScarDuck14 Star Wars Squadrons worked brilliantly. I didn't think they'd do a full game in VR and thought they'd just stick with the original tech demo which was unbelievable.

Although I'd highly recommend for anyone to try GT7 VR, in some ways you're possibly wiser not to get PSVR2 just yet, as you'd end up equally frustrated as the rest of us PSVR2 owners who can no longer go back to flat screen and can't play F1 in VR yet.

Do you have a wheel setup? Or just controller? Getting a wheel was a similar situation for me as I didn't want to play racing games without one after that (apart from Mario Kart type games).

When I played F1 games on flat screen, I found myself relying on the corner breaking guides too much as I didn't have the time to learn each circuit well enough without them.  With VR though, I can pretty much learn a circuit within about 5 to 10 laps to get a decent enough laptop time.  Mainly because you can pick out so many details a lot easier when the circuit is all around you.

I may give F123 a try as it was free on PS Plus.  Luckily the team line ups are the same as this year and I've never driven Miami or Vegas, so that'll be something new.

@superhoops82 The big benefit for using PSVR2 in racing games is you don’t have to worry about POV settings. But as I’ve said GT7 is as awesome in PSVR2. Because it was the perfect game to showcase it. And as Sony wanted to blow everyone away with how good it is. I’m willing they poured way more resources into getting perfect. Whereas other game’s publishers will give their developers the minimum and least possible time…. thus all AAA game pretty much release in a broken unfinished mess. Unfortunately cooperate greed in tech and pharma is disgusting. Only care about quarterly statements. So CEO only care about maximising short term profits to keep shareholders happy. Last EA. Conference call. All questions were pretty much from investment backs asking about in game advertising. In Game monetisation profits etc etc. one question was about a game. Obviously included as a token.

For all my working life I’ve been a professional driver. And although I love racing games. Last thing I want to do when I’m home is anything that reminds me of a wheel. So despite I average 600 hours in just this game. I have 200 hours so far in WRC. Using a steering wheel to similar to work, same for VR as it’s so similar to sitting in a car. I’m not a sim racer. Has I’ve had many near misses that would have been fatal having driven 2 million miles. Good chunk at speed. Hardcore Sim racing doesn’t excite me. I’m gamer that loves racing games. I don’t race looking for world record times or be a toxic elitest and spend my time complaining the game is broken cause someone on pad beat me in my 20k sim rig. Games for me are or were fun. It’s getting harder these days but still sweating to play a game isn’t me

@ScarDuck14 woohoo!! - yeah! - oh wait now I need a 2K+ gaming pc doh!

Just as you didn’t want to come home from your driving job to sit at a wheel, as a long time IT person coming home to wrangle a Windows PC felt exactly the same - more work not play😜

Not a big deal !! The problem isn’t the headset but the hardware plateform. I don’t have a PC gamer type. Probably quest 3 is similar of PSVR2!!!

@Neil_RS60 💯. I hate defending EA with passion but for me the blame for the state of PSVR2 lies with Sony. Who I’ve been a fanboy off forever. They do everything differently to everyone else as though they enjoy being awkward. But when using Sony tech with Sony tech you instantly know they have made sure they sing… like GT7 and PSVR2. They rolled it out and everyone was blown away how amazing it. So everyone pretty much bought it on the strength of one game. Expecting tons off VR games to follow

@ScarDuck14 can’t disagree. Sony definitely has dropped the ball on the larger ecosystem

@SteveJackson not just the game per se but also keeping windows going - drivers updates patches etc

@ScarDuck14 Sony not having any sort of VR mode in the next Astrobot game is the biggest kicker for me. They could have gone with a hybrid approach to cover both flat and VR fan bases.  The original game was a key PSVR1 seller and one of the best games ever across any platform.  Sony deserve a massive slap for this.

Shame EA can't seem to get F1 working properly on PC, or was the quality just so variable based on setup, that some people can actually get a solid experience out of it?

@superhoops82 EA could if they wanted. But profits and shareholders are king. So they won’t give their studios time and money to get games back to how they were In ps3 days. Game came on disc and only patches were tiny things you didn’t even know were wrong.

Their number crunchers work out worst case game sales. And allocate budget accordingly. Instead off think if we increase funding that could be used to develop a banger that could sell even more

@MeteoreIt’s the only way. Sony have all but came out and said it’s failed on PS5 as 95% ish off PS5 owners have not felt it’s not for them. By making it work on PC has effectively killed any chance of any big AAA games coming to PSVR2 + PS5. No need for developers to spend time and money specifically supporting PS5..

A long time ago we had video tapes that play movies etc.  there were two formats Beta max and VHS.    Beta Max was by far the superior.  However it was slightly more complex than VHS.   And not much more in price.  However  movies on VHS were released quicker and more readily available.   Beta Max despite it being better.  Couldn’t sell the numbers and died.  Before disks VHS rained supreme

Moral of story just because something is better than everything else.   If it doesn’t come with content and cheap. Vast majority off people are not gamers and with cars if they don’t get it

yes dark, but not dead yet maybe.

Agree w his take that VR in general is as much the issue as well as Sony’s current strategy. The discounts will juice some sales, and some 3rd party stuff may keep some interest.

But yeah for VR, corporate gaming spreadsheet dev accounting likley won’t add up at the moment when the whole industry is a bit stressed. And that model is getting tired even for flat games so its a bit self reinforcing (however I do still wonder why EA/CM bothered w VR for the PC versions of F1 and WRC given cost/pain vs payback)

The must have VR experience is still elusive i guess for the larger audience but driving/racing is one for me w so much added immersion

Such a missed opportunity. Im in numerous racing leagues and PS users would love F1 24 on PSVR2. I have a motion sim and would be an epic addition. I already own PSVR2 and love it.

PSVR2 now being sold with a £180 and $200 discount in the UK and US respectively. Glad it's now at a more suitable price point and seeing people now adopting it who were waiting on the price to go down.  Hoping the increased ownership will see EA/Codemasters make the next F1 game playable on it. The F1 game sales are tanking and I'd imagine part of it is due to VR supporters refusing to going back to flat screen racing.

@superhoops82  There’s basically no chance F1 25 has VR compatibility. The reason sales are tanking is because the core gameplay is getting worse.

The handling has been controversial since launch, the AI race in NASCAR style packs due to some unsolvable issue relating to ERS/ DRS/ Dirty air just to name a few of the games issues.

The dev team needs to go back to basics and straighten out their game engine before they can even consider adding fancy stuff like VR…

Also, sorry to break it to you, but Sony discounting PSVR2 isn’t exactly good news for the pro VR crowd. That’s just them trying to offload inventory and at least recoup manufacturing costs.

You’re wrong. It increases the customer base. Pretty basic business logic

Agreed.  It's great that the customer base is going to get a boost and don't see it as a bad thing at all.  Only stores in the UK and US are doing these limited time discounts currently so not sure how it came about for these countries specifically.  I see Amazon have already sold out at that price point in the UK which is good going.  It's a good way for Sony to guage an appropriate price and see if there is genuine interest in VR and if it was just the high cost was what was holding it back in terms of sales.

Selling at cost or thereabouts will be beneficial in the long run as an increase in VR game sales will make up for it.  Better than having unsold headsets that aren't bringing in extra revenue.

I guess we'll get a better idea of PSVR2's future over the next 12 months or so, but I'm not panicking just yet, especially while games are being made/ported for it, regardless of who the developer is.

@Cooper4000 Yes, offering sales is a good business strategy for increasing the customer base when you have a solid product you plan to support long term. However there's nothing that points to that being the case.

Sony is reportedly pulling the plug on PlayStation VR 2, only has two games in development (tweaktown.com)

Report: Sony Balks on PSVR 2 Game Development (roadtovr.com)

Which means they're just trying to offload what they can, write-off the rest and move onto the next project.
