My save was damaged, and progress was lost. Can it be restored?

Basically I was starting the game from pc and there was written that my save had been damaged. I tried to access the account anyway but it did not let me so I was forced to create a new save in which I lost all my progress, set ups and careers. I’d like to know what happened and if there is a way to get the old save back in.
