AI Race Engineer – The Feature That Could Transform F1 Games

Formula 1 is built around communication between the driver and the race engineer. It’s one of the most exciting and authentic parts of every race, yet in the games it still feels very limited.

I would love to see an AI-powered race engineer in a future F1 game.

Imagine being able to talk naturally through your headset, just like a real Formula 1 driver:

  • “Should I pit this lap?”
  • “How are my tyres?”
  • “Is rain expected soon?”
  • “Can I undercut the car ahead?”
  • “What’s the gap behind?”
  • “Do you recommend a different strategy?”

Instead of hearing the same pre-recorded voice lines every race, the engineer could analyse live race data and respond dynamically based on tyre wear, weather, fuel, safety cars, DRS trains, traffic, race pace and strategy.

Even better, the engineer could adapt to each player’s driving style, giving personalised advice throughout a career.

This would completely transform Driver Career and My Team, making every race feel unique and much closer to real Formula 1.

With today’s AI technology, this feels like the next big step for racing games. I truly believe this feature would become one of the biggest selling points of the F1 series and would make the game more immersive than ever before.

I hope the team will seriously consider adding an AI Race Engineer in a future title.

    That’s a good idea.

I would also add using AI for translation, so that these messages could be heard in any language.

  • It is a nice idea, but it's still probably a way off from being added in game because the current gen consoles don't have a ton of AI capacity and what they do have is mostly focused on graphics. The PS6 and Xbox Scarlett will likely have more AI functionality so I could see something like this being added then.

Edit: My bad, Project Scarlett was the codename for the current gen Xbox. Project Helix is next gen.

  • I agree. I've always thought it would be great if this was added. Since it actually takes time to get a response from a race engineer in real life, it wouldn't be a problem even if the AI takes a moment to process and replies a bit late.
I would be satisfied even if the race engineer's voice sounds bit like an AI

I honestly think this would be one of the biggest improvements for immersion in an F1 game. Every race would feel unique instead of repeating the same radio messages over and over. I really hope the developers consider something like this in the future.

Hi everyone, thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts and feedback on this.

We really appreciate the discussion around an AI-powered Race Engineer, including ideas for more dynamic race-strategy responses.

We’ve passed this feedback along to the team so the developers are aware of what you’ve been discussing here. While we can’t make any promises about future features, it’s always helpful for the team to see what players would like to experience in future F1 games.

Thanks again for sharing your ideas and being part of the community!
