Two player career - Please help!

So me and a pal are trying to do two player career. 

First run completed a full season but forgot to quick practice and so our car was crap going into year two. Also I messed up a few settings so we restarted. 

Second run got to race 12 before a cut scene caused a disconnect for me and when I tried to get back in I got an unending loading screen. If he disconnected I was suddenly in but he then had the unending loading screen trying to rejoin me. 

Third attempt - I had a disconnect in the middle of race 4 and when I tried to get back in I got the unending loading screen. 

He’s on PlayStation I’m on PC (steam) if that is relevant 

Can anyone help us just to get a functional career mode together. It’s the whole reason I bought the game!
