Update (Patch) 1.08 - My Observations

It's weird as I don't see any threads or comments here about the latest Update 1.08, which I installed on my PS5 a few days ago, ...and here are my positive and pleasing observations:

(PS5 - SIM Rig in Cockpit View - Driver Career with FULL everything including full distance races)

  • Update 1.08: How come there are no threads or comments here on this latest Patch? I was interested to read if your Patch 1.08 observations or experiences were as pleasing as mine. Are we quick to criticize, yet slow to commend? I believe that we should offer credit where credit is due.

  • The AI in Wet Weather (Patch 1.08): In China, the first half of my (full distance) Race was in dry conditions, and I was leading. Then the rain arrived, and we switched to Inters. I managed to maintain my lead and the cars (AI) behind me were challenging, but nowhere near the ridiculous and unrealistic pace in the wet that they once had before this latest Patch. After 5 laps the HEAVY rain appeared, and we all pitted for full Wets. So, for the last 12 laps of the Grand Prix I still managed to maintain my lead and I even created some distance between me and the Pack. However, the 2nd placed AI did challenge me for many laps, ...but I held my racing line, continued to be patient on the throttle, and was super critical with my braking points, ...and I managed to WIN the race in wet conditions by 5-seconds. This was a very different wet race experience to my previous races in the wet prior to this new Patch (1.08). THANK YOU CM and EA Sports - GREAT job! 👍🙂

  • The Safety Car (Patch 1.08): Previous to this latest Patch (1.08), I raced an entire Season of Full Distance Grand Prix with only one (1) Safety Car intervention for the entire season. I am now in my second full distance Grand Prix season (Patch 1.08), and after three (3) races, I have experienced the Safety Car on three (3) occasions. Coincidence? Perhaps, ...but I remain optimistic that the latest Patch (1.08) has fixed this issue 🤞

  • Patch 1.08 - My Summary: My two (2) previous gripes were (1) the superior and very unrealistic performance of the AI in wet conditions, and (2) the non-existent Safety Car, for me, appear to have now been addressed and FIXED in this latest Patch (1.08). Thank you CM and EA Sports, ...I am absolutely loving the more realistic racing experience in Driver Career mode since this latest update.

  • FYI - I have raced nearly ALL of the PlayStation F1 games since 1998, and in my opinion, F1-25 (since Patch 1.08) is THE BEST version of this game to date 🏎️🎉🏆 ...and no, I am not employed by EA Sports, ...I am just a very satisfied customer of the latest version of this (PS5) game 👍

I'll be absolutely honest here. I have not seen any difference whatsoever with regards to AI performance in the wet. I also have not seen anyone else reporting any clear and obvious improvement too. In fact the criticism has expedited even more recently at just how utterly miserable it is racing against the AI in the wet.

In addition it's even more miserable with a pad with the awful excessive tyre wear.

As there is nothing mentioned in the patch note regards to any fixes it's just the same.

But I'm glad you are enjoying the game. I'm not!

I am sorry to read that Ian. I can only describe or report on my personal experience.

I have never experienced any excessive tyre wear, ...but I don't use a pad either.

I have only seen a slight improvement in the wet and I suspect not from the AI but thanks to the raised player car ride height. I am still losing too much time in the wet with full TC and braking probably around 1.5 seconds in Texas. My car is easier to drive though, just not fast in comparison to the AI.

Meanwhile, my eldest who is home for the summer from uni and uses no assists, says the car is easier to drive but has nowhere near the traction the AI has in the wet especially (in his opinion) in 3rd and 4th gear.

Since it isn’t just me I can only assume the wet racing still needs work. So Codies only get a passing mark for fixing the pit hold issue but until the rain issue is fixed they do not get commendations. All the other issues I can live with, including the fact every driver seems to be names Piastri.

  • There were no commending threads about the 1.08 patch because CM/EA weren't making any changes to the AI in 1.07, 1.08 or 1.10....so either you hadn't played since before 1.06 when they made the last AI update, or it is placebo effect of installing a patch and thinking it changed something.

1.08 literally just added the Chrome McLaren and addressed a CPU usage issue according to the patch notes.

Thanks for the reply jlspeak, and you have me wondering 🤔

The only thing that I can think of is that because I didn't race in wet conditions in my 1st Season of Driver Career, and now only experiencing a wet race recently in my 2nd Season, that I've never actually had an issue with the AI and wet conditions 🤷

Here is my recent AI & wet conditions experience:

"I held off the AI in wet conditions on full wet tyres for the final 12-laps at China (full race distance - Driver Career - Grand Prix - SIM Rig - Cockpit View - PS5) to win by 5-seconds.

I found the AI behind me to be very challenging in the wet, ...but so they should be as I was in a (mid pack) Racing Bull, being hounded by superior Red Bull (Verstappen), and a Mercedes (Russell). However, I strictly maintained the racing line, I was patient on the throttle, I short-shifted, I used ERS whenever possible, and I was gentle with the brakes. ...and I maintained this concentration and discipline for lap after lap after lap.

It was a an extremely nerve-wracking final 12-laps at China on full wets, but it was also very satisfying as I eventually won by 5-seconds. This was MY most recent experience racing the AI in wet conditions."

Maybe I am one of the very few who doesn't appear to have an issue.

I appreciate & understand the concerns of the masses here regarding the AI & wet conditions, and I remember only too well how bad, ...really BAD, the superior performance of the AI in wet conditions was back in F1-22/23.

I sincerely hope that EA Sports investigates and fixes this for the majority of players that are affected.

How much faster would they have been if they were in front of you? Would that difference be the same in the dry? I was able to hold 18 cars behind me in Canada but my teammate, LeClerc and Norris were a second and a half a lap faster than me. Given I qualified on pole by 6 tenths I should have been competitive not a road block.

    Yep, ...granted AEF251

I just had another (my second) wet race in Canada (season 2 - Driver Career), and while I finished in 5th place, the four cars in front of me bolted ahead, ...uncatchable, ...and they beat me by over 40-seconds.

The AI performance in wet conditions is broken (unrealistic).

Last week I thought that racing the AI in wet conditions wasn't an issue as I held off the (AI) pack for 12 laps to win a full distance GP at China. I stand corrected.

Further experience with racing in the wet has revealed that I was merely a roadblock in China.

In more recent wet condition races, once the AI overtook me in the wet, they bolted ahead and were uncatchable. Totally unrealistic, and it ruins all the hard work of positioning oneself well in a full distance race in dry conditions, to be totally obliterated by the AI when the weather conditions change to rain.
