Clutch Paddles for Starts?

Do I need to own a wheel with dual clutch paddles to use it during race starts?

Also, is it possible to use the clutch option with only two paddles? I saw someone said they used their right paddle for clutch but I was confused by that.

 I am deciding which wheel to get for my simucube but at first I thought I needed dual clutch but it sounds like I don't need one. I dont have a clutch foot pedal just gas and brake.

It sounds like I could also map the clutch to a button but how would that work?

    @kaijuh1 F1 cars don't have clutch pedal like in road car with manual transmision. In real life f1 drivers have clutch asigned to button on wheel if i'm not wrong. For gear changing they don't need to press it. It's automatic.

    In game it's similar. I've got my clutch asigned to right paddle (gear up) and you just need hold it on race start, rev car up then realese and car start moving.

    @kaijuh1 As far as I understand, F1 22 doesn’t use an analog clutch. Regardless of whether you map to a clutch paddle/pedal or button it acts as a simple on/off.

    There’s is no riding the clutch bite point for smoother starts as far as I’m aware. I was interested in this as well given how difficult starts are in this game and after doing some reading this is what I’ve come to. I’d be thrilled if someone could inform me I’m wrong.

    @KVNR01  no that sounds right. I thought the race starts would make better use of the clutch but it sounds like the clutch is an on-off button. I am likely just going to bind it to the right paddle like other people have mentioned

    @C4rdi4S yeah I know they dont have a clutch pedal but I know they have clutch on the wheel for race starts and anti stalling. I thought i would need to get a wheel with 4 paddles but I will just need 2 paddles for this game

    @KVNR01Yep your right. In f1 game clutch work on mode on/off. When i got my wheel, first i've asigned clutch to pedal and starts felt strange. When you release it to certain degree car start to move, but it's hard to tell when it comes as it's on/off. It's feel much better to leave it on gear up paddle 🙂

    @C4rdi4S This is half right, half wrong. No, F1 cars today don't have a clutch pedal, but they DO have a clutch PADDLE. It's on the back of the steering wheel below the shift paddles.

    When you see drivers doing practice starts at the end of practice sessions it's in part to get a feel for the clutch bite point and to help the race engineer fine tune the clutch bite as well for the expected track conditions on race day.
