Re: Where are the old f1 games ? f1 2019 Senna vs Prost Edition needed.

@Meza994 you think that EA does not own the licenses ? And did EA not inherit the licenses from Codemasters ?

@thugz0rz Unfortunately, EA refuses to support anything that they didn't make, which is why they removed F1 2020 and prior from the online stores.

Which is also the reason why we won't see Classic Cars again, because if that is the case, then EA absolutely must bring F1 2017-2020 back to the online stores, and since those aren't EA SPORTS F1 games, this will never happen.

    Sorry to disappoint you, mate.

@LuckyNico92 There is no correlation between bringing back classic cars and being forced to bring back the older F1 games.. F1 2013 was down before EA bought Codemasters and from what i heard that was because the licenses ran out..

@thugz0rzThey dont own the lincenses in that sense by my understanding, they just pay a certain amount to be able to use the licensed product for a game or maybe a couple of games but nothing permanent

@Meza994 F1 2013 only went down because F1 2015 came out, containing both the 2014 and 2015 season, making the PS3 games basically immaterial, as I don't think that people who had a PS4 would still play an outdated game.

However, I don't understand how the license for F1 2020 was wiped out a few days after EA took over. Really, a few days after the release of F1 2021, F1 2020 was gone from the online stores. So you're telling me that Codies still has the license but they can't bring the games back because EA is afraid that everyone could start playing F1 2020 and therefore they can't make any more money off their own F1 games, are you kidding me?

If this happens, then so be it. F1 2020 is the best F1 game ever, and if people want to start or continue playing it and spend some money for some items from the item shop or get the DLC they weren't able to get, then just let them do it. Don't just go ahead and wipe them out of the online stores just because there's no EA SPORTS in the game's name. Ridiculous.

EA should lay off their hands from F1 anyway. Don't they realize that since they took over, the F1 games are totally awful and basically feel like Need for Speed with F1 cars, with the cars being this prone for drifting like never before, as well as the AI being insanely broken in several scenarios?

Really, I totally understand removing outdated games like say F1 2013 from online stores. But F1 2020 is nowhere close to outdated, and EA still refuses to bring it back, because it's not an EA SPORTS F1 game.

@LuckyNico92So why would the previous games still be available but F1 2013 not?

I dont disagree that EA doesnt want the non EA games to be available, it makes sense..

F1 2020 has nothing to do with CM having a license for it but just EA taking the games off any store, they want to sell their games its fairly simple, just money talks..

Again its just a matter of money, companies always take "getting more money" over "getting less money but making the customer happy"

I really like a RTS game called RUSE.  But you cannot buy it anymore because Ubisoft decided not to pay to renew the licenses.  Licensing has only last certain amount of time.  When that time runs out if you don’t renew it you can’t use the licensed content anymore.   Only way to get ia game no longer licensed is by finding and buying a old physical copy

@LuckyNico92Codemasters are responsible for far more shockingly bad games than the last two. F1 2020 is the GOAT of the franchise. Codemasters have always been up and down from one year to the next.

EA for once isnt to blame. During and Since the pandemic it hit every industry’s ability to produce products that were on par with what came before. 2021 suffered from being developed under lockdown and has had a knock on effect with 22 as that was also in development under lockdown or whilst the dev team was still working from home.

@ScarDuck14 I don't know if developing a game under lockdown has THAT huge of an effect on a game, but if that's the case, then maybe things start to look up now that everything is almost over.

Still, I am thinking that with many of Codemasters good devs out of action, EA took over the development process, and changed both F1 2021 and 22 for the worse. However, now that everything seems like it's fine again, maybe those good devs of Codemasters are back in business and bring us the F1 game we ask for, a viable successor for F1 2020.

And really, F1 23 will better be good, otherwise FOM will probably revoke the license from EA for making these games terrible, just like it happened with FIFA and Madden.

@LuckyNico92 Nope it was all codemasters and developing a game when everyone is working from home is a huge handicap. communication between devs and various departments is seriously impacted. Zoom meetings are not the same as face to face. Being in the comfort off your own home has a negative effect on productivity, 🙄

@LuckyNico92 FIFA wanted more royalties to extend their licensing deal, EA didn't want to pay a premium for it.

It had absolutely nothing to do with FIFA not liking the games.

Have no idea where you get those fanfic-esque fake news from, but that crusade against EA is quite tiring. And that's coming from someone that ranks EA really low on his list of liked publishers.

Anyway you've got a proper response on the license side of things for F1. Any follow up question, feel free to post.
Spoiler: the answer will hardly have anything to do with villainous EA and chivalrous Codies.

I’ve been playing codemasters games for 30ish years.   They have made some proper bangers and they have made some proper garbage.  Since internet they have always sucked when it comes an online multiplayer and  I don’t think they have ever dropped a patch that hasn’t created more bugs than it’s fixed.  And I’ve a proper Codemasters fanboy.  TOCA is in my top 5 racing games of all time,

@ScarDuck14 Good point, I totally understand what you mean. Being at home and chatting via Zoom might be comfortable, but it's less productive, that's true.

@mariohomoh This crusade against EA only started with F1 2021, and it only affects F1 games made by EA. DOESN'T mean EA only make terrible games, because FIFA 22 and Madden 18 are only two examples of awesome games from EA SPORTS, and the development studios of EA like Criterion (or Ghost back in the day) made great Need for Speed titles.

I only have this EA hatred when it's about F1 games because I loved F1 2020, so far the last Codemasters F1 game, and 2021 and 22 are so awful. Honestly, I desperately hope for the best for F1 23, as this is the last chance before my confidence is completely gone.

@ScarDuck14 You tell me. I remember, Colin McRae Rally was a fun game when I was younger, but I obviously wasn't good back then, so I didn't play Championship Mode.

So you don't think EA didn't had their FIFA license revoked because they were "making these games terrible"?

@LuckyNico92 Colin McRae another banger. Most of their worst games before EA other than Operation Flashpoint are F1 games. Think only 3 or 4 have been bangers

@mariohomoh Dunno. From what I have heard, loads of FIFA celebrities complained that they are not portrayed as good and skillful as in real life, and because many big streamers say that FIFA 23 has tons of bugs that still aren't fixed to this day.

It's just rumors, so I'm not 100% certain.

@LuckyNico92 EA doesn’t need FIFA. EA has licensing agreements for all major leagues in Europe and across the world. FIFA got greedy and wrapped up in their own self importance. They wanted a big chunk of money EA make from FUT. EA said no as FUT has nothing to do with FIFA. FIFA said well if you don’t Pay up we will not let you use our name anymore more… EA said ok then bye bye.

EA used to make EA Fight night. Which was a good and popular boxing game. When they were developing the newer one in the franchise. They were in negotiations with boxers for their imaging rights. Boxers such as Floyd Mayweather, were asking for absolute fortunes. EA ran the numbers said sorry no your demanding to much. We have offered you millions. Rather than be held to ransom. EA cancelled the game:

FIFA only have their big international tournaments to offer. Least played mode on FIFA: EA have the players the leagues and the clubs

@LuckyNico92 Let me see if i got it right, when FIFA 22 was released (which is a great game according to you), EA announced that FIFA 23 will be the last game called FIFA and they switch to EA SPORTS FOOTBALL, and then a lot of FIFA celebrities started to complain about FIFA 23 because they are not portrayed as in real life and then you say that's why EA lost the FIFA brand? I am confuse 🙂 To be on topic too, we probably won't see classic cars back in F1 23 at least (i saw a tease from Leclerc about supercars) because of money and licensing. This is a business and as much as we like it or not, they are here to make money.

@Hempyjr It astounds me. That some thought EA would give codemasters huge amounts of cash to make the game they want. And don’t understand first and foremost is maintaining or increasing margins and development budget is allocated accordingly

@ScarDuck14 Exactly, they can offer us a game according to the development budget. In this case, if classic cars don't generate too much money, they will try something else which they already did in F1 22. It's not enough to have 20-30-50 players who likes to play with classic cars and it's a reason more for them to buy the game. The percentage compared with other game modes and reasons why people buy the game it's too low to invest such amount of money in licensing and development of these cars in game (i don't know the exact percentage but it's logical as long as they removed classic cars).

@Hempyjr Also I think this game is unique in that people buy it specifically to race F1 cars be it GP, TT, multiplayer or career and My Team. A case can be argued for F2. But not a strong one. Those modes is all we want. And only things we want year on year is improving those core features. I don’t understand why they keep trying to shoehorn stuff in that other racing games so much better.

Supercars and life was obviously a misguided attempt to appeal to a younger audience. But bulk off F1 fans who buy the F1 games are generally older professional males that have no interest in dress up

@ScarDuck14 For me even F2 is understandable because we have F2 support races in some F1 weekends and sometimes i even see some social lobbys with F2 cars but supercars and life definetly was not a good attempt, maybe it was a better ideea to implement life to career mode somehow, to create there something like a driver real life. Maybe the younger audience is excited about this feature, who knows? I think time will tell when they will give up and remove Life from game.
