I cannot figure out how to do starts. In My Team I am winning pole by a 1-1.5 seconds. Every start I am losing at least six places - usually closer to nine. In the races I can generally comeback and usually get on the podium and sometimes win - and always have the faster lap - again by 1-1.5 seconds.I use a G29 wheel in cockpit view and no assists. I keep the rpms low (trying to avoid going into the red) but when I do this I am immediately passed by a slew of cars. When I push the rpms a little higher I veer right into the wall and the race is over. If I redo the start a number of times I can occasionally have only 3-4 cars pass me - but that will take me 10 or more starts to do. Because of this I keep the AI rating low - which means the actual racing is not particularly challenging.Is there a good video or blog showing how to do starts in cockpit view? Thanks

https://youtu.be/Lufo7tVfDAE@dwin20 try this. For me the revs suggested in the video are too high, pre 1.07 I would keep them around 11k but now I struggle with anything above 9k. Have yet to nail race starts (also no assists), and usually lose 1-3 places off the line using the shifting strategy in the video (at lower revs), and make them back in the first few corners. Would be nice if I could hold position into the first corner!Good luck 🖖🏽

Hey @dwin20, I’m still struggling with this tbh, but I’ve found a consistent way to lose less places, and sometimes hold position going into the first corner. Around 9k revs, accelerator bar in between the m&p of MPH (or k&p of KPH) on the HUD (see below) and hold. Lights out, hold. Car moves forward a bit and you can hear and feel (if you got a wheel setup), when the grip is about will give out. Quickly change to 2nd, and apply a bit more and increasing throttle. Again you can hear when grip is beginning to give out, quickly change to 3rd. This 2nd to 3rd is fairly quick. Start applying more throttle in 3rd but not all the way - up to around 80%. Again you can hear when the grip will give, quickly change to 4th. From here I can get to full throttle relatively easy.Hope this is helpful. I also wonder if starts are impacted by r&d in MyTeam, which is what I play. As I’ve developed the car it’s been easier to hold places, but then again, It might just be me doing the above more consistently.I also think (if you have formation lap as immersive) that tyre temps and getting purple when parking in the box make a massive difference.

@dwin20 I was struggling really bad too, but this video helped. I found that you just can’t go above 9 k revs to get a good start. Its really critical you can see the actual revs in rumbers or you will never have any consistency. @Monzstar83You just need to keep the rpm low when launching, and throttle control to reduce as much wheelspin as possible until the momentum built enough, then you use ERS because the AI use ERS at around the same time too.I guess it could be difficult for wheel user because there might be no paddle feedback, for pad it's very easy to at least match the AI.

@dwin20Am away from my console atm, but if I recall correctly, there is an option in display settings, called show HUD in cockpit view. If you enable that, you should be able to see the HUD in cockpit.In terms of hearing/ feeling, I really can’t explain it but the sound of the revs change. Feeling wise the wheel will get light/ move a little off your direction you’ve got the wheel going.

@Monzstar83 First - thanks for taking the time to help me out - much appreciated!
The graphic you have below is not the view I have been using - and I have not seen that display that shows the rpm. Not sure how I would display that in the cockpit view - and then be able to get rid of it after the start.
What I have been trying to use is the lights across the top of the wheel (on the screen).
Two questions - not sure what I should be "feeling" for in terms of the grip giving out (I have a wheel - G29) - is there a specific setting I need to be using?
...and what should I be listening for in terms the grip beginning to give out?
Last item - I have not been using the formation lap at all - sounds like you are saying that is essential. In looking at my tyres at the start they are blue (70C and 60C).

@Monzstar83 Made some progress - I figured out the HUD in cockpit view - and it took a little practice but could settle in at 7500-9000rpm. Thanks!
I was still struggling a bit because my tyres were cold in the one race I was working through this problem. I ended up fourth through the first turn in just a few tries - much better.
For the next race I am going to do the immersive version of the formation lap (although I do hope EA gets the cold tyres not using the formation lap problem corrected in the next patch). Hopefully that will significantly help.
Still working through the sound and feel - what do you have the FFB set at?
BTW - the HUD is quite helpful.
One last question - and this might be to everyone - My speed pedal seems to be quite sensitive or is that me not being careful enough.

After a lot of trial and error with this, I've figured out a few things that can help:
Formation lap burn outs help to really heat the tyres. I press the accelerator with a little bit of brake at the same time in first gear
As few revs as possible when the lights go out
Short shift almost instantly to third gear
Maybe even reduce the revs
Once you feel you have traction, increase the revs and start shifting up
When you are confident the car is under control, use ERS
Starts are really challenging this year - and the AI seem to apply full revs and ERS instantly off the line and perfectly pull away
I have found myself spinning and hitting the wall or trying to stop the car turning 360 degrees off the line so many times this year - it looks really comedic on the replays

I know its not realistic… but i did a couple of donuts on the line up to the grid and got the rears upto 90 degrees c as a test. And it gave me the best start I’ve ever had. Seems tyre temp could be the most important thing in getting a good start.
first time no AI overtook me off the line.

Yeah, I must admit I have mixed feelings about starts in F1 22. It's nice that is more difficult to have a good start, more related to tire temps etc, besides it was probably too easy in the past, too easy to have a good start and AI was not so good as well, so it was quite easy to keep position and/or to gain.
What probably is not the best is that, together with these higher starting troubles for the player, the AI is much stronger and imho the problem is that each AI car has a strong start, that's why the player often lose so many positions and this is also not related or not enough related to the AI difficulty. What I would like to see would be a scenario like this:
- I have a strong start --> I keep/gain positions
- I have a medium start --> some AI have better start than me, some worse, the most similar to mine, so I can lose/keep/gain depending on which AI has the good/bad start
- I have a bad start --> I lose positions
in other words I would like more "differentiation" at the race start about AI cars, like IRL

@ajobling1983 Have you looked for your tire wear after doing this? I'm not sure but sometimes during the formation lap while I'm heating up the tires I spun and end up doing donuts to heat them up but it seems the tire wear gets bigger compared to the times I don't do it.

@TomasSlb24 I didn’t look as i new rain was coming and i’d only need to stay on them for a couple of laps. I wouldn’t normally do that, was just experimenting. For me doing burnouts, doesnt generate enough heat to get upto 90c. So need to practice

@ajobling1983Ye same I normally just do burnouts too. What I was questioning is if the tire wear during the formation lap is affected knowing that you can't see that in your MFD during that lap.

Yeah I understand and would expect higher tyre wear on the rears. Just didnt check as i knew I didn’t need that set for long.
