i can't figure out how to start a thread for my CM, so any tips are appreciated. until then:
waiting until the january transfers are updated before starting my next manager career save with manchester united. this is the time of year when i move on from pretending it's the current season and, instead, pretend it's the start of next season. this means no more turning off the transfer window, selling players who i wouldn't have sold before the january squad update (casemiro, varane, antony), and potentially even replacing the manager as sir jim and his team take the reins.
the plan is to utilize a blend of solid scouting and recruitment to find promising up-and-coming players, along with returning the academy to its former glory with year-round scouts in england and scouts sent to other countries throughout the year. there's also the potential for that odd icing on the cake luxury signing to add a bit of stardust and class, a la robin van persie in 2012/13.
decisions, decisions, right? first things first: who will be manager? does the ineos group stick with ten hag or will they want to start fresh with a clean slate? as far as the new manager goes, i've narrowed down the options to the following: diego simeone, hansi flick, ruben amorim, and graham potter (complete with tactics to match). i'm open to suggestions. i thought about including antonio conte, but decided against it after considering the new recruitment strategy and the direction the club is looking to go in.
next will be assessing the current squad after sir jim and his team have had most of the season to consider outgoings and priority positions to strengthen, along with taking a look at the youth to see who may be ready to fill a spot as a squad player. at the moment, i'm looking at a striker to help carry the load and ease a bit of that pressure on 20 year old hojlund's shoulders. a right-footed centerback is next, as varane can either accept a new role or move elsewhere. it'll be a summer transfer saga for the ages as it's anyone's guess if casemiro will go (italy, france, portugal, or turkey, perhaps?) or stick around for one more season to act as a leader in the dressing room and mentor to the younger defensive midfielder united will be targeting. finally, it's a toss-up if a right winger or a left-back is next on the list, as ineos aren't convinced by antony's lack of adjustment to the premier league or luke shaw's injury record.
i have targets in mind for these positions and i'll be detailing them in a future post. again, i'm open to suggestions, as well. i'll also be listing the players united will be putting up for sale or loan, as well.
once i've decided which manager to choose, these updates will be more immersive and engaging, i promise. for now, i thought it best to simply outline the immersion, the plan, and the first steps. feel free to share your input on manager, players to sell, priority positions to strengthen, and targets.
