Well, there was this early idea that Ralf Rangnick could have continued as a "consultant" or something like that. Pulling the strings behind the scenes. And apparently Ten Hag didn't want him to stay in such a role. This role was also quite unspecified, so there could be many truths to this. I don't know, but I do believe that someone with Rangnick's knowledge of how to build a football club properly would have been useful. First order of business should be to get the ownership situation sorted though. Can't believe we're still waiting for that to happen.
