The weather, I think. It's been like that forever, or at least for as far as I remember. You may argue that the weather isn't that different from the British weather, but the money is also smaller and I suppose the clubs can't afford a proper heating of the pitch, which makes them impossible to play on during January/February.
At least we haven't done like Norway and Sweden, who play after the calendar year, starting the season in March and ending it in December (as far as I know).
In all three countries we are also seeing more and more clubs beginning to play on artificial grass, which is the case for both FC Nordsjælland and Silkeborg, just to name a few. Which is a huge nuisance for any club visiting them and being used to play on real grass.
