Wow knocking out Man City is very impressive. Were they relegated at the start of this or did they stay in the Prem?
The scoring is picking up again. Just in time to put you back into the playoff race and still time to catch second. Southampton are probably too far ahead to catch.
I like the Matete signing. For a free signing there is little downside and I remember him being a pretty good player in one of my previous careers.

City weren't relegated, no. I divided teams from the league position at the time, so City stayed in the Prem, whilst United were the ones to start in the Championship. But yes, winning against City was massive. And it was thrilling to do so with a late turnaround.
I remember Matete too, I had him briefly as a reserve in my previous Sunderland career. But he didn't play that much, always had better players ahead of him. But in this save he'll probably be a starter in most games, and he adds something to the defensive part of midfield with some of my other midfielders being more offensive-minded.

Heartbreaking close end to the season. A great effort to get into the playoffs at the end and then make Wembley but this wasn't the year. Probably a good thing, gives you another season to build a stronger team.
Next year I can see you going up with automatic promotion like you did in previous years.

Thanks, yes I agree. I never felt "too good" for the Championship this season, so it didn't feel right to take the step up at this point. I aim to do it a year from now, but we'll see. From the looks of the new season, it's going to be a quiet transfer window with only a limited amount of traffic.

You are right, a very slow transfer window. The squad seems to be the same talent wise. That could be a good thing though, you were so close last year so keeping the main squad together could work.

Exactly my idea. Didn't want to push a sale of any of my players except Humphrys, and since I didn't receive any offers worth considering except for the keeper, I decided to keep what I had. Plus the opportunity for veterans Collar and Fletcher to rise in the all-time rankings for goals and appearances for the club.
But I've played a few more games in now, and it seems this plan could backfire with a number of poor results and performances. We'll see. Perhaps there's going to be a busy window in January in stead.

A inconsistent start so far. Dobbin is a nice surprise but others will need to step up as well. Burnley look to be the favorites so far and will be hard to catch.
Man United can be a turning point. A win at home and the momentum can spin around quickly.

Indeed, very inconsistent. Especially my strikers, who score braces or even hattricks, only to go missing in the following handful of games. I would prefer them to spread out the goals a little bit.
Man United a tough test, yes. I'm still to get past that 3rd round in the Carabao Cup, having lost twice to Arsenal at this stage of the tournament. One of the times I lead until the 87th minute, only to see them take a 2-1 win with two late goals. Maybe I'll do better this time, but I could have hoped for an easier draw.
