@CO88LER5 wrote:Interesting match against Man United. Do you ever change formations during a match? I do that quite often if the opposing team is so dominant, as I find that a different formation quite often makes me more competititve. For instance, in that match, I will have changed the formation sometime in the first half (probably after the third goal) to try and stop the United goal tally getting higher. In some matches, I've switched more than once, trying to find a formula that gets me back into a game, and it does work for me at least. Another thing I've found (I use two strikers) is that, sometimes, just switching the two strikers around makes a difference, which I find a bit weird...
It's also interesting to see the scorers in that match. I do think the game as a whole does some strange transfers between clubs...
I have no problem switching up during or between matches, I think I got too comfortable as I had ditched 5 at the back something I had adopted for the Premier League. Whilst I didn't revert back to 5 at the back against United if memory serves be correct I changed up to have a CDM to give some added support. My personal preference in 451 attack, but that won't work at all right now for Blackburn so I'm currently switching between a couple 541 formations and 433s
Nice to see 7th place being so close to first place at this point in the season. A lot of teams with a chance to win still. But that defense might need some upgrading..

14th at this point in the seasons isn't really a concern. But going from the form of the early games to this, that's certainly a decline, and I see why the manager is under heavy pressure at the moment. The 4-1 home defeat to Nottingham Forest is poor, and you need to improve defensively to keep the goals from flying in this easily. Now, that was all the negative. Now the positive: This is a pretty good development storywise. When I saw your early form, I "feared" for you that this would become too easy, so you would just go from strength to strength from here. There's hardly much story in that.

Yeah that's kinda why I fiddled around with things a bit, I kinda let it slide at first as it meant I completed an objective and maybe with exception to Chelsea I'd say a few opening games were winnable so wasn't completely out there. Plus had it continued and I had had a phenomenal season then the next season would've had a very different look as the squad would've been picked apart for being successful, I'll assume that would've worked anyways.
Of all the defeats the only one that annoyed me was the Forest result especially as once again 3 goals came close together not sure why this keeps happening concede 1 whether winning or drawing and my defence turns into mush
- 2 years ago@thurlow885
3 of those 4 defeats are quite easily explainable, in terms of where the opponents are in the league. As you say, the Forest result isn't a good one.
In terms of injuries, it seems broken toes are a favourite of EAFC24. I've lost count of how many I've had so far. The injuries you report are "just one of those things" type injuries, on the face of it.
As for fitness, I have to say I am quite enjoying tweaking the sharpness and fitness settings per player. It's level of intrusiveness feels about right at the moment; once you get them to a balanced position, it only requires the odd change.
I rarely play the same team in consecutive matches; certainly never in the case of when there are midweek matches, so I manage to keep the players pretty fresh. - thurlow8852 years agoSeasoned Ace

Interesting approach signing such an elderly player. I think most people here would try to find younger players, who can grow, so I like the idea of doing things a bit differently. It's also quite a decent start for the veteran, scoring in his debut. Good start for the Polish forward too.
Resultswise the Carabao Cup defeat is a disappointment, compared to your league form which is quite good. But perhaps it's not all bad to have one competition less to worry about.

I like the manager's attitude in the press conferences. It's a bit like Ferguson was at times.
Don't give much away; that's the best approach.
Tough result in the cup, but that's not the one the game targets in terms of whether you stay or get fired...
Blackburn are doing well in the league, so that's good.
Interested that you signed a veteran. There used to be an objective in the game that requires that, but I haven't seen it pop up for 2-3 years... - thurlow8852 years agoSeasoned Ace

I'm no stranger to buying a veteran usually as either a quick fix or when in Championship and feel it adds a little something sometimes as it's not that unusual. I didn't go out with intention, but wanted an experienced forward 30+ to lead the line. I saw Ben Yedder pop up and wasn't too expensive it actually ended up being between him and Immobile, but when I checked Aston Villas player stats and they had better options plus Ben Yedder had only played 2 games I figured it was a realistic deal. Obviously ovl has gone down he's 79 currently, but it suited me. Bialek was already shortlisted so went for them both and had to do early otherwise I wouldn't have got Bialek until next season as had less than 6 months left. Hoping he'll work out going forward I like playing with wingers and him being 6ft 3 gives a good target in the box to whip balls into.

Good news that Yan Couto isn't going anywhere. From my point of view he looks like one of your outstanding players, perhaps also being a kind of a coup to even get him in the first place. So making yourself open for offers makes very good sense. I do this too. My defensive midfielder Raskin has been targeted by Chelsea among others, and I set an asking price for him, but so far they haven't been inclined to pay anything reasonable for him.
Good start in the FA Cup, which is also a must, if one wants to survive in this game. Your league form suggests that it's hit or miss each time, either winning games or losing them. You rarely draw. Perhaps this could be an area worth exploring; to turn a few of those defeats into draws in the time to come. But no panic. 12th place, same points total as Liverpool. Things are looking good.

Couto has been great, I had been debating whether to turn him back into a midfielder as I made RWB is main position, but I already have so much competition there it seemed needless and while I mainly play 523 at the mo I get best of both worlds out of him, but if the price was right then I'd let him go.. maybe I'm over valuing at mo as his market value is £12.5 or 13 I think, but to me he's more valuable.
I thought I would've had offers for Willock or Van Brederode in window, but again nothing. The latter I wasn't happy with last season. Initially signed as a big signing in Championship and who I'd build around soon become someone I'd let go as soon as an offer came in, but nothing. Ironically like Willock he's been much better this season, but still currently sits behind Willock and Dolan at LW for priority. Think my next transfer window could be an interesting one. Getting ahead of myself here I know, but I have a few unsettled players and one demanding to leave sue to lack.of game play even tho they've played in majority, but I'm hoping somehow that changes come new season. Managed to avoid them leaving in January so 🤞

"one demanding to leave sue to lack.of game play even tho they've played in majority"
I posted a bug report about this a couple of months ago but, as usual, got absolutely no engagement from EA. It's quite shocking, really.
One thing I would say, although it's too late for that player, is: watch their contract happiness. If it goes into the red (thumbs down) and their morale drops to 'unhappy', then renegotiate their contract if you want to stop them from demanding a transfer. If they hit 'very unhappy', you've probably had it with them.
Not ideal, but I have found it seems to work.
By the way, if they demand a transfer, there's no way back from it; even when a new season starts (I've had this experience already). I also mentioned the absurdity of that in the bug, with no reaction from EA. - Stlducks42 years agoSeasoned Vanguard
Maybe Ben Yedder was the missing piece? The team has gone on a winning streak since his arrival and could be what is needed to save the season.
I think relegation is no longer a concern. Maybe there is still time to finish in a European spot?

Overall team performing well and in a good position and well above expectations right now and the players aren't exactly playing badly then overnight they suddenly unhappy with play time as well etc I was tempted to go back and see if negotiating a contract there and then would help things but have decided to just except it, got a bit of time before I'm forced to sell him due to contract expiring etc plus this is football, not everything goes to plan

Having a natural goalscorer has definitely helped even if past his prime, but he's doing what's needed now whilst moulding in my future No9

The season is starting to crash after it looked like you were turning things around. The defense is killing you, maybe it is the tactics? Losing to Bournemouth in the 5th round is a huge missed chance to make a deep cup run.
With the amount of goals you are giving up, relegation is a risk at this point. Any formation or tactic changes coming?
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Veteran
At least your games are interesting to watch. 3-3 vs Man United and Bournemouth in back to back games, and then again vs the latter in the cup. 4-2 win at Palace, 4-3 defeat vs Fulham. After 6-0 at City. Ouch.
Comparing you to Fulham, Brighton, Forest and West Ham, whom you're rivalling in the league table, you're certainly more dangerous going forward, but also much more vulnerable in regards to conceding goals. 62 conceded, compared to 40-46 for these other clubs. This is the area you need to improve, if you are to climb the table. I don't know if the relegation zone is at risk yet, but with only 1 win in the last 7 league games I'm not sure you can rule that out completely.

Oh for sure the form is concerning, I haven't focused too much on sides above been focusing on ones below as ironically keep dropping points against them, but we are pretty clear of relegation, whilst it is certainly possible we're 9/10 points clear I think when made this update, what I wasn't aware of is we were only 4 points away from 8th or 9th so the mod table is very close, but of a gap after that tho.
I think defensively I need to play around with tactics a little more and the sooner I know for sure I'm safe I will probably take the time to experiment a little. 4 at the back with a CDM wasn't working and 5 at the back not been much better. Another thing despite a lot.of high scores I'd say my keeper has been one of my best players. I think I have a decent set of defenders for now just need to find the right tactics

@JustinCase0110 your a good Stats Finder guy, only if it doesn't take too much out of your time, don't suppose you can find a factual sources for Record Scorers and Appearances for Blackburn. I'm getting different results everywhere I look and they quite significantly different too. Transfer Market has David Dunn, but other sites have a fair few listed above him in regards to appearances. Like said only if you have the time spare

A comfortable win at Villa Park and almost a win at the Bridge after that. After your previous poor run of games, these results needed to come and they did. You must be in the safe zone now with 10 points down and only 4 left to play.
I appreciate your confidence, thanks mate. You shouldn't use transfermarkt for this, they are not too good with elderly records. I always try to use the official website, but looking at Blackburn's, I can't find any mentioning of these things.
I know Wikipedia isn't a great source with how it's put together and open for editing by the masses. But sometimes the masses / the fans are the ones with the best information. Looking at this page List of Blackburn Rovers F.C. players - Wikipedia you can sort the players in total appearances and total goals, putting Derek Fazackerley on top with 689 apps and Simon Garner with 194 goals. Shearer third with 130. Obviously I don't know the validity of this, but it's the best I can find, and it's what I'd go with, if it was me.
