Out of position in Drop ins

I'm constantly getting put out of position no matter what. Im a LW and if theres another LW then I cant play there no matter what. Even if they're lower rated or if I'm captain I still won't play. I don't want to play alone and I don't have a team to play for. Is there a way to stop getting put out of position?
