@Danimal5981 wrote:Six games to go. With a push, 3rd is still on the cards. Risk of falling outside the top 8 is small, except for Bari. It depends a bit on the emaining program really. But I'm expecting you end up in the play-offs you so much despised at the beginning of the story 🙂
Webster has broken his duck, finally, good on the lad!
The remaining program is a mixed bag:
33 - Brescia (H)
34 - Spezia (A)
35 - Como (H)
36 - Südtirol (A)
37 - Lecco (A)
38 - Cittadella (A)
So there are two from the top and four, who are all still in danger of relegation. We play most of them away from home though, which has been a bit of a drag. But perhaps this was mainly an issue in the first half of the season, being undefeated in league games away from home since early December.
So with a second half (of the season) being better than the first half, I assume we are closing in on the playoffs after all. I do still have some reservations about a premature promotion, but we'll see where it goes from here. I don't think I'll miss out on purpose.
It's contradictory to say yay doing great, but too great maybe? Have the similar dilemma, not gonna forfeit the chance at promotion through the playoffs, but for the team currently have it would be better to have another season in this league like with your Sampdoria. Webster well and truly getting involved, a future star and legend for Sampdoria or a future cash cow who they sell for millions and millions later on?
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace@thurlow885 Yes, same here. I do think it's a bit too soon for this team to go up. And for the sake of longevity in this save, it will also be a positive thing for me to stretch Serie B a little, rather than make a rapid rise to the top.
It would also be the best for this Webster fellow, I believe. In Serie B he might advance to become a starter soon, whilst that would scarcely be the case in a potential relegation battle in Serie A. I get your point about the cash cow, but having made him the narrator of this story, I haven't excactly made plans for him to leave at any point throughout it. But you know, sometimes things happen beyond your control, and I would just have to find a way, if that was going to happen... - JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace

I know earlier in the season the talk was that it might be too early for promotion but with how your team finished, it might not be. The team is improving, one of the best defenses in the league, rarely losing and starting to score more. If promoted, add a few players in the summer and you have a great chance to stay up.
But first, the all important playoffs. At this point, you are playing with house money. If you lose, it is great experience for the players to play in this type of game. If you win, you're promoted. Either way, you have beat the expectations everyone set for you so it is a great season already.
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace@Stlducks4 Yes, second half of the season much better than the first. So I do have a more positiive attitude towards a possible promotion after all. But I wouldn't complain about staying down either, which storywise might also still be my main preference.

Picking up the pace, I see; due to issues I'm only nearing the end of 2023 now. And you're ready and set for season #2.
Let's do predictions: I'm saying Direct Promotion but no Serie B title (2nd)!

Yes, while you've had trouble getting in the game lately, I had my trouble posting here for a few days, thus falling a bit behind on my updates. Now I'm up to speed again, ready to kick off the new season, both in game and in the forum.
Interesting prediction. As I recall my two CM's in FIFA23, I won both the 2.Bundesliga with HSV and the Championship with Sunderland in my second season with them both. So maybe I'll follow the same pattern this time? I've just noticed that Genoa was relegated from Serie A, Sampdoria's main rivals, so I hope for a top race against them. I'm also due to play them already in match 2, perhaps providing an opportunity to see an early status report between the two.

A cap is an international appearance (with a national team) and I doubt you have such an internationally experienced squad. I think you mean club appearances (or, abbreviated: apps)
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace@Danimal5981 Absolutely, I do mean appearances for Sampdoria. Thanks for clarifying, didn't know that a cap only referred to international games. Actually I did assume it some time ago, but then I saw it used somewhere in regards to club appearances, and since then I've thought it could be used for both. Anyway, I'll just use "apps" from now on. That's also what I write in ny notes anyway...

Missing some consistency I see.
I almost believed you could turn the season around with that positive streak mid-season, unfortunately it was closely followed by a winless streak that forced you through playoffs ane, well, we know what happened.
Keep it up, better luck next time!
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace@ale85bg Thanks mate, and you're absolutely right about the consistency part. I'm more familiar with the game now, so I do expect to be able to build some momentum during season 2.

I have to apologize, but I had done an in depth response to this as j had a bit of catching up to do, but I stupidly hit the back button and despite pressing forward back to my response it seems this forum doesn't save my posts like it did on the old one.
In short
The fans may not have loved the end of the season, but I'm sure they'd pick a high flying season in Serie B than going up unprepared with a likely Relegation Battle
You achieved what you set out to do with a stellar season and the signings made look to be good ones, was a slight bit of concern reading the shortage on keepers but that's sorted now and here's to a progressive season and a march towards returning to Seria A now you've set a foundation within the team.

Thanks for the effort to make an in depth response mate. Too bad the site doesn't save it anymore. That would also have helped me the times, where I wrote something and they responded by telling me to sign in, even though I was already signed in. All written text also just disappeared those times.
Shortage of keepers, yes, I had a 35 year old, Ravaglia, whom I just let run out of his contract, he'd also lost 3 or 4 in his overall rating anyway. And then Stankovic went back to Inter from his loan spell. I did consider bringing in a 3rd keeper, just for realism's sake, but these backups never get games anyway, so in the end I chose not to. One unknown freebie was enough for me.

That's what I call a great way to start a season, especially because of the derby win which has surely given a morale boost. Congrats!
By the way, out of curiosity... How did you manage to get Torres in the game?
Does it feature some Serie C teams (maybe hidden?) for promotion/relegation purposes (and that would be definitely cool) or did you make promotions up yourself?
If it's the second case... Very nice addition! And, speaking among friends... Any chance to see Pro Sesto promoted next?😛

Thanks mate. Yeah the derby win was awesome, especially since it wasn't an easy one and was only won in the last minute. So that was probably one for the fans to remember.
In regards to the promoted Serie C teams: You guessed it. I made that up, took the current real life league leaders from Serie C and had them take the place of the relegated Serie B sides from last season in the story. No, they don't exist in FC24, so the clubs are the same IN GAME, but have been replaced by these promoted teams in the story. I did it a few years ago in the Danish league, but it became rather dull in seasons 5 or 6, when I kept getting new promoted teams up and had to remember, which of the teams were "avatars" for which promoted clubs. Now that I expect to get promoted to Serie A for next season, this "fantasy promotion" is expected to be a one-time thing for this save, so sorry... I'm afraid I can't help you with Pro Sesto 😃
- thurlow8852 years agoSeasoned Ace
I hadn't noticed that regarding the inclusion of promoted teams from Serie C it's a nice little touch for attention to detail when there is no division below.
Great start for Sampdoria and nice display from Webster also getting a hat trick or assists in his first start. Looking to be a promising season all round and undefeated in opening 6 is added bonus
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace@thurlow885 Thanks mate, yeah my protagonist is doing all right. He's still only on 61 OVR, so I do play him a little more than his rating justifies. But if he keeps performing, then why not? And I also need him to get this amount of games, if the dynamic potential is as overpowered as it was in FIFA23. And I get the feeling that it is.
- thurlow8852 years agoSeasoned Ace
The great start just keeps getting better all-round for club and our young Narrator here. 5 consecutive clean sheets is a great achievement (don't do what I did after I achieved it and concede 6 in 2 games 🤣)
Another youngster getting in on the action too, all-round looking very promising for Sampdoria and despite how early we are in the season they are definitely early contenders for promotion

Thanks, yeah I must be careful not to take anything for granted now. Conceding 6 in 2 games would certainly be a disappointment.
Young David Martin is doing well, yes, one of two talents, who were already in the academy, when I started. The other YOUNG player (a South Korean named Young, actually) is away on loan, hopefully progressing better than he would, if he'd stayed here in a sporadic role. We'll see if he can come back to play a part later on.

Much like @thurlow885 - a near miss in season 1, a great start to season 2. Season 3 will be in Serie A, for sure!
