Not entirely sure that Palace see it as a derby, nor see Brighton as 'a rival' in that sense; they are much more likely to see one or more of the London clubs as 'rivals'. They are at opposite ends of a road - the M23 - so I guess it can be seen as some kind of connection.
@JustinCase0110 I actually thought of trying to play 3 at the back again against Arsenal lol. But then I decided not to make that mistake again like at Chelsea and went with my usual 4-3-3-. The Arsenal attack was just too much early on, as expected. They are a much better side and it showed.
@Danimal5981 I agree. Top 4 is a dream but not my expectation. The board is asking for a midtable finish. I want to go one beyond that and finish in a Europa League position. With Chelsea, Man City, and Newcastle struggling, top 6 is very possible.
@CO88LER5 I do not see Brighton or Palace as a "rival" but I have seen fans say it. Doing a Google search, it showed up as a derby and I cannot find any other team listed as a Brighton "Rival."

Three in and Three out for the winter window
Brighton made early work in the winter window, completing all their deals by Dec 26th. Unless a surprise offer or a golden opportunity comes up, Brighton will be done with transfers for the season.
"We made a few deals more than expected. A few players asked to leave due to playing time and after talking with the board, team captain, and coaching staff, we felt a few signings were needed to secure Europe this season." Pochettino said before the Tottenham match. "Another winger, a defender that can play left and right back plus an attacking midfielder. All in one window! That is exactly what we needed. The scouting team did a fantastic job and the club is putting money into securing our goals. I am very excited for the rest of the season!"

Decent-sized profit made on transfers.
Will that really be to Pochettino's satisfaction, or is he a bit disappointed behind the scenes, I wonder?
I am curious about Enciso; I rather thought he was quite the prospect and that Brighton would want to keep hold of him - especially until his value rises a lot more than that. - JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned Ace
I share @CO88LER5 second-guessing your decision to sell Enciso for peanuts. I get the reasoning behind, but a loan could probably have postponed the dicision a bit, eventually bringing in a bigger fee as well. But since it's not hard raising money in this game, I suppose it's not too important to make the best possible financial decision on the matter.
Interesting transfers. I already mentioned the Nordsjælland-teenager, but I like the others too. I do enjoy these right-footed left backs, who can be really helpful backups. And I've been impressed by Callum O'Hare for quite some time, mostly in game, but also in the FA Cup semi final against Man United IRL. It's about time he gets snatched up by a bigger club, and I see Brighton as a good fit. At 25 he's probably past the stage where he could be targeted by the biggest clubs.

Interesting striker dilemma. Two very talented strikers, who could both bring in huge fees from top clubs, if they perform well over a season. And you're left considering replacing them with rather mediocre players, to be best of my knowledge.
If it was me, I would definitely keep them both, perhaps find a way to make sure they aren't a struggling lone striker, when they play. Could they play together with a formation change? Could a striker with Premier League experience come in and push them a bit?
I look forward to see how you handle this one. They are easily the two players at your disposal that I would be most intrigued by signing myself.
- LABoog42 years agoNew Ace@JustinCase0110 I have looked at a formation change but my wingers are playing so well good season, I do not want to bench one to add another striker. Same with my midfield, they are all in great form and control games.
The best solution would be a loan to a Premier League or Championship side for Ferguson and then bring in a temporary solution.
I have received a few 2-year loan options that I am interested in but the clubs have not been the right for yet.
I think we talked about it at the start of this career. Ferguson is someone I was high on and I think you were too. He's just too raw. He's not quick, his finishing is below average and he seems to get knocked off the ball easily. But there is potential there. - 2 years ago@LABoog4
I don't think I'd ever do a two-year loan out. I'd just not see the point of even having the player on my books if he was away that long.
Joao Pedro is a favourite of mine, from a few years back. I'd be focusing on him, for sure.
I always play with two up front, so I'd be able to try them together but, if that's not your preference, then maybe you should sell Ferguson and try to get another quicker player? - LABoog42 years agoNew Ace@CO88LER5 I have never used a 2 year loan option but I'm tempted to try it. Normally, I agree with you. Why have a budget on the books that is not needed. But Ferguson is only 19 and already showing great potential. If a team will pay 60% of his £18k wages, and they are in the Premier League then I might try it.

Brighton & Hove Albion has made a significant addition to their squad with the signing of Sekou Koita from RB Salzburg. The 24-year-old Malian forward is set to bring a new level of dynamism and attacking prowess to the Premier League club.
Koita's Background and Achievements
Sekou Koita has been a standout performer in the Austrian Bundesliga, showcasing his exceptional talent and versatility. Known for his blistering pace, technical skills, and keen eye for goal, Koita has been a key player for RB Salzburg. During his tenure at Salzburg, he amassed an impressive goal tally and consistently delivered standout performances in both domestic and European competitions. Koita has scored 36 goals in 76 appearances for RB Salzburg playing as a striker and midfielder since 2019.
What Koita Brings to Brighton
Koita's arrival at Brighton is seen as a strategic move to bolster their attacking options. His ability to play across the front line offers manager Mauricio Pochettino greater flexibility in offensive tactics. Koita's speed and agility make him a constant threat to defenders, while his proficiency in finding the back of the net is expected to improve Brighton's goal-scoring capabilities. Koita will be used as a backup to in-form striker Joao Pedro as well as play behind the striker as a number 10.
Manager's Perspective
Mauricio Pochettino expressed his excitement about Koita's addition to the team, stating, "Sekou is a player with tremendous potential and proven quality. His versatility and attacking flair will be invaluable as we aim to strengthen our squad. We believe he can make a significant impact in the Premier League."

Evan Ferguson Joins Aston Villa on a Two-Year Loan from Brighton
Brighton & Hove Albion's promising young forward, Evan Ferguson, is set to join Aston Villa on a two-year loan deal. The move is designed to provide the 19-year-old with regular first-team football and valuable experience in the Premier League.
Ferguson's Rising Talent
Evan Ferguson has been widely regarded as one of Brighton's most talented young players. Having made his senior debut at just 17, the Irish striker has shown glimpses of his potential with his keen goal-scoring instincts and mature on-field presence. Despite limited playing time at Brighton, Ferguson has impressed with his technical ability, physicality, and a knack for finding the back of the net. With the arrival of Mauricio Pochettino, the club is looking to improve quicker than previously planned, limiting the time Ferguson will have to develop with regular minutes.
Aston Villa's Perspective
Aston Villa sees Ferguson's loan as a strategic addition to their attacking lineup. Manager Unai Emery believes Ferguson's arrival will not only strengthen their forward options but also provide a fresh, youthful dynamic to their attacking play. With Villa looking to build on their solid performances in recent seasons, Ferguson will fit in as a rotation option for Ollie Watkins who is currently injured.
Development and Opportunities
For Ferguson, the loan move to Aston Villa represents a significant opportunity for growth and development. Regular game time in the Premier League will be crucial for honing his skills and adapting to the rigors of top-flight football. Aston Villa's emphasis on nurturing young talent aligns perfectly with Ferguson's aspirations to establish himself as a formidable forward in the league.
Brighton's Strategic Move
Brighton's decision to loan out Ferguson underscores their long-term vision for the player's development. The Seagulls' management is confident that the experience gained during his time at Villa will be instrumental in Ferguson's progress. Upon his return, Brighton hopes to integrate a more seasoned and confident striker into their squad. The move will also free wages from Brighton's books with Aston Villa agreeing to pay up to 80% of the strikers wages over the 24 months.
Looking Ahead
A perfect situation for Brighton will be sending the young striker off to gain Premier League experience while the club continues to grow. Ferguson will return to the club as an experienced 21 year old striker ready to slide back into the squad that will hopefully be competing in Europe on a regular basis at that time.

Seagulls new signing makes a splash
Brighton secured a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace in a tightly contested match. New signing Sekou Koita made the difference giving Brighton the double over their rivals this season.
Callum O'Hare provided an assist for Marcus Edwards, who opened the scoring in the 38th minute despite Crystal Palace controlling the first half. Eberchi Eze was forced off with an injury right before the half, his second time missing half a match against Brighton this year.
Crystal Palace equalized in the 54th minute behind Dominic Solanke, setting up the dramatic derby finish.
The decisive goal came late in the game, with Mahmoud Dahoud assisting Sekou Koita, who scored in the 84th minute after being on the pitch for just 22 minutes. Koita's impactful performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

Players with a high potential grow rapidly, whilst on loan, so I would anticipate Ferguson being a very good player once the 2 years have passed. Either he'll slot back in to your side at that time, or you'll be able to receive a huge fee for him. Got to keep the save going beyong those 2 years of course, but if one does that, one can really benefit from it.

Seagulls capitalize on easy fixtures to stay in top four race
Marcus Edwards scored a terrific individual goal against his old team to secure a thrilling point against Tottenham. Tottenham remain 7 points ahead of second place Liverpool but struggled to find the second goal against a energized Brighton side. The next two matches for Brighton were against sides they should be beating. Ipswich, sitting on 4 points and already relegated, were brushed aside by the two new signings both scoring and assisting the other in the match.
Everton were just as easy despite the score line. Brighton had 68% possession and out-shot the Toffees 18-2 in the match. With everyone healthy and the new signings fitting in, Brighton are looking like a side ready for Europe.
"They are unbeaten in their last 8 matches in all comps and have won 7 of them. This is a scary side that Pochettino is putting together already. The board has already shown they will spend money, Pochettino has shown he knows the pieces needed. I am really excited to see this side continue to grow and what can happen with a few more pieces added." TheAthleticFC Brighton and Hove Albion correspondent Andy Naylor wrote after the match.

Brighton have come a long way to see Everton as an easy fixture. Roll back the years to the 1980's with Brighton in the 2nd and 3rd tier and Everton winning league titles and the Cup Winners Cup too. I suppose a lot has happened since then.

I had a feeling that Callum O'Hare would be a good signing for you, given how well he's always performed, when I've played against him. And there you go, goal and assist in your FA Cup win.
Good to see you finding luck in the cup draw, an a trip to Wembley is looking rather likely. But one shouldn't take anything for granted and end up underestimating The Tractor Boys.
- LABoog42 years agoNew Ace@JustinCase0110 I thought O'Hare would fit in quickly and so far he is. Everyone is playing in great form right now so it is actually hard to play everyone.
The cup draws are fortune. Normally I have someone like United or City but this time I only had Spurs and lower league sides. - LABoog42 years agoNew Ace
