The near five million euro spent by Ajax to acquire the services of this promising though unproven Danish right wing back is raising eyebrows, particularly because Ajax has two right backs within the squad. Gaaei has represented Denmark's u23 team six times and his arrival to Ajax follows a long tradition of Danish players mking the step up to European prominence via the Amsterdam team. Others who have walked the same route before him, include: Frank Arnesen, Søren Lerby, Jesper Olsen, Jesper Gronkjaer, Viktor Fischer, Michael Krohn-Dehli, Christian Eriksen, Lasse Schøne and Kasper Dolberg to name a few. Legendary brothers Michael and Brian Laudrup joined Ajax as well, in the autumn of their careers.
To name a few, you say? Think you did well to name a lot, actually. And the Laudrup brothers not only played in Ajax in the autumn of their careers. Both actually retired there.
Fun mention of the Mislintat/Akpom connection from Arsenal, I wasn't aware of that. I just love these little bits of information you can pick up while reading up on these stories. Well done. A few more poor results, and then a win vs Twente. Perhaps a hint of better times ahead? Berghuis in central midfield seems to work out just fine, doesn't it?

I knew Ajax were struggling these days, but I also knew that I didn't know the full story and depth of the mess they're in. The way you describe Sven Mislintat and how he apparently puts himself and his connections first - if I understand it correctly that is - wow, that's just poison for a football club. It's really interesting to get this kind of insight. I do feel there's some kind of change coming, once your story is ready to kick off for real.

Sounds like a lot of unnecessary drama surrounding the club at the moment. If the team starts winning, a lot of the tension will fade away.
I do like Chuba Akpom, I liked watching him at Hull before I realized he was on loan from Arsenal. But I admit, him signing with Ajax seemed strange to me. I did not think he was that good to move up to a club like Ajax.
Trying to make up 9 points is going to be difficult if results do not start turning around soon.

I was surprised to see Akpom at Ajax, I missed a lot of transfers this summer which is quite ironic as I was often updating a transfer decision thread. He was someone I had picked out from last season dn made a mental note of some plans this year, wasn't until I was messing around on FUT and saw he was an SBC and I see he playing for Ajax.
Can certainly sympathise with you as a fan for the off field drama, had much of that once again at Leeds of the summer. Frustrating football can't just be played on the pitch, but then again us as fans are just as guilty as we've continued to follow and fuel the greed.
Let's hope fortunes change for Ajax irl as well as this career for your and our enjoyment. An uphill battle, but not impossible
- JustinCase01102 years agoSeasoned VeteranTough situation being 9 points behind Feyenoord already. And seeing them taking all three against both PSV and Twente, I suppose you can't rely on any help there. Obviously you do have the head to head games against them, but apart from those it does seem like Feyenoord can win most of their remaining games and perhaps built a solid gap to seal a second consecutive title. So Ajax would probably be wise to focus on themselves and not think too much about what happens in Rotterdam.

Nice to see Bergwijn making things happen. The Europa league will be very interesting. The group is not easy and if this was Ajax of recent years I would expect them to win it.
If you can then beat Feyernoord, that might spark a upbeat in the season.

Frustration is Europe as well and interesting take changing up to the good old fashioned trusted 4-4-2. Feels weird tho Ajax, but needs must in trying times, sometimes have to completely change what stand for to consolidate then get back to what do best when recovered and on the way back up - Danimal59812 years agoSeasoned Ace

Interesting if this "in house" appointment is what Ajax needs to improve. I suppose that's how Guardiola started in Barcelona, but my initial response would probably be that it's a dangerous way to go with many of these appointments failing to make it. Good luck.
