FC24 Switch Shooting

Just got a Switch for my boys with FC24 and we love the gameplay, but cannot figure out how to shoot accurately. Every time we try a power or finesse shot it flies over the net. No matter what direction we move the left joystick it still goes high over the net. Looking for suggestions/feedback.
