Location matchmaking

Hi all, I’m just curious about the locations chosen by the servers. I live in the UK and use a GeoFilter on a Netduma R2 router, and I know how large the player base is in the UK but can’t seem to match with anyone here. The common countries I match with are Germany and the Netherlands, I can’t block them on my router because it will either crash the game or not find a game?
I understand we need some form of skill based matchmaking whilst searching but matching me with countries that are a few hundred miles away isn’t ideal when I know the UK player count is massive. 
I’m basically asking, are you aware of this issue or finding a remedy for it because this is way out of my ISP’s hands and solely EAs servers that are causing high ping games due to the distance.
