Long Passing Nerfed After Update

Since the patch a few days ago it seems long range passing - specifically long range lobbed through balls - is nerfed.

Players like Toni Kroos and Trent Alexander Arnold launch balls with the velocity of a dandelion on a breeze. Receivers invariably end up having to wait for the ball to get to them rather than running on, even with the correct tactical settings (such as long balls + forward runs). Counter attacking in such a way has basically been nixed.

Furthermore, they seem to be frequently unable to hit these passes straight -  specifically with their preferred foot (right). Their left foot passes are nominally faster but often much straighter, helping to achieve distance.

And then there’s the increase in shanking passes into the stands…

Both players have long passes as their PS+ as well as whipped pass PS. I know the latter was tinkered with in the last update, which seems to have essentially made their strongest foot their weakest. I appreciate some might have wanted passing slowed down but surely players with the pertinent PS+ abilities shouldn’t have been affected quote so heavily.

On the other hand I've noticed CPU passes, shots and free kicks still manage to break the sound barrier, so AI opponents appear unaffected.

  • @CptQuint_1975 I agree although I would go far as to say that passing in general has been nerfed. When I make a pass it seems as if the ball is gliding on ice and either misses the player completely or goes straight to the opponent.

@f997e3deb5f28651 @CprQuint_1975 Passing has been completely sporadic for me since game launch. If I had the patience to look at me end game statistics for passing accuracy it would make for some pretty bad reading I think. They need to fix it big time.
