@Novum14Forget the pro scene. It's pathetic the way they play and any tournament you watch is not a good advert for this game.
That aside...
5 at thw back is fine. I have no problem with it. It is a tactic in real life so should be available. Drop back is obvious to spot and should certainly take its toll on their fitness as they are constantly retreating into their own box. The tactic here is patience and keeping the ball and working left to right to find the opening. Again, patience.
Also, no one shoud be forced to playing a wide open game that is 8-7 in scoreline. If you find an opponent who gives you that type of game then enjoy. BUT, there is also skill and to some of us holding the opposition out from scoring is just as rewarding as scoring goals. Do remember 2 sides to this argument. Some want to keep clean sheets (or at the least no concede many goals).
Hope this helps.

The problem is how easy offense is and it not being manual. The meta is 4321 pass across the field to fullback then pace down the wing for pass across goal. How many games end 0-0 not very many.
As far as the pro scene I would guess it’s to promote even more scoring as thats more fun to watch.
Also let’s not forget going all out pressure isn’t really that great of an option at a draw or winning.

EA have made changes to the competitive settings for online play. It has certainly made it better. And equally it is the same for both players playing each other.
I have certainly been part of a few 0-0 scoreline in Div1 Seasons mode. Games where we have both cancelled each other out. Still entertaining with chances, hitting post, bar etc...
I have also been part of thrilling scoreline.
EA have certainly made the competitive settings a lot better this year. Attacking would not be so good on full annual because full manual is not great on FIFA/EAFC. The current balance is pretty good.
Defending needed to be made more manual and again EA have done much better with it. Not seeing auto blocks all thw te like previous years
It is a lot better these days.
PS. I am not overly bothered what formation I come up against. I prefer people trying to take me on down the touchline and cut in
I defend it pretty decent. I concede them at times but I should. I take pride in trying to defend people and keep it tight at the back.
I genuinely think alot of people need to be more calm on the ball and less sprinting around like a mad man would go a long way for them.
