We are well in to November now, and the high pressure (71 depth) ai defending is ruining this game. Have you(EA) actually sat down and played a couple of games? Its horrendous.. Its impossible to play through the middle and on top of that the stamina drop off on people who use the 71 depth high pressure is none excisting. At least if there was a consequense to the high pressure you could be reassured that maybe at the end of the match the person who has used the high pressure all game long would actually be punnished for doing so. Risk/reward.. At the moment there is no risk what so ever by doing 71 depth high pressure. The problem with the ai defending and second man press being so OP is that you force players to run down the wing and make cutbacks all day long because thats the ONLY thing that works. Its near impossible to combine through the middle against people who use second man press and have 71 depth. Could you please show an interest in the actual gameplay and save the game from being dead by december.... The ai defending in this game is waaay to OP

I can't play this terrible game anymore, you ruined the beautiful game, I deleted it from PlayStation 5, it's a disgrace. Let's come to the UFL football game as soon as possible and enjoy the game. You too will be lost like the PES game..

Does it really matter? High press is broken in this game since there are no stamina penalty and AI is playing the game for you, doing interceptions that are just not possible to do if you control the player by yourself. This is by far the biggest thing that is ruining this game. Sure, these matches can be won with tikitaka ping pong but there are games that you cant even pass the ball to your winger without using R1 to get them closer to you. AI warps or presses in front of the pass even if its behind your player.

@Miguelidos I would recommend you playing with high depth and high offensive width. I wasn't enjoying the game until I started to do so.

71 depth is basically same as high press. So your solution is to play high press against high press? Sure, this can be done if someone wants and I sometimes do it. Problem is that there is no stamina drain. I play with high width.I adjust my formations and tactics "on the fly" and I have no super big problems winning games. Its just insanely unrealistic and boring that high press is the only way to go. It is just too powerful and easy. It should be high risk, high reward playstyle.

I think wing play if very important as the way out here because there is not space in the midfield. Might aswell play 4-2-4 and keep the ball out wide and work way in to box.
I would personally recommend if you go one or two up and the opponent is playing this 71 depth AI win ball lark. Just play keep ball and annoy them. Just sickens me to do that but these tactics EA are allowing people to get away with are just insane and game breaking.
People with poor records are getting success with this and that shows its terrible and broken.

Hi All,
As it appears to be mentioned pretty much everywhere online now, this 71 depth lark is ruining this game with high pressure and basically blocking the central areas of pitch up.
So, I thought it's time to discuss counter tactics and style of play to ruin there fun and to work around this. Hopefully until EA nerfs it.
Every game online is starting to feel the same now because of it and EA really needs to fix this.
I guess in the meantime we discuss ways to counter it and give advice from experience have played against it.
Please leave your feedback and tactical findings in how to play against this.
My findings so far is to play very wide and almost forget the central areas of the pitch. I am only using central areas for quick passes in and back out to the wing again.

Maybe EA don't see it as a meta, maybe all they see is data saying everyone loves playing that way?

@R1ckyDaMan19 The thing is, it's very contradicting what you see in Pro-Level vs Casual-Level. Typically things are inversed and EA can't please both.

I've seen Pro's saying Defense AI is broken and they need to buff press.

Then, I see everyone else saying Defense is terrible and pressing needs to be nerfed.

Believe me. High pressure with 3 to 4 players swarming around everyone one of your players is ridiculous. The other issue with this is it makes your players nervous and passes become weak and go right to the opposition everytime. More times than not they will then go and score.
The fact that the AI - YES THE AI - is winning the ball back for the opponent is broken. No more discussion!! The AI is winning the ball back by default. This is wrong and broken on so many levels.
The other issue here is no Stamina loss. - Like what on earth is EA thinking. Players sprinting around like nutters should have nothing left by halftime.
Needs fixing. Game is dead.

@blue166 I counter their press with my press. Here are my tactics:

91 depth
40 defensive width
70 offensive width
Possession-based Chance Creation
7 Bars of players running into the box.

@blue166 If you're not playing high press, I don't know what to tell you. Listen, I was very against playing it myself, but once I did, I was able to play the game as I normally do. Just because you're using high depth doesn't mean you can't defend or play a possession-based style.

But, I do agree with you that EA needs to sort this out because pressing at times can feel very overwhelming -- causing your players to make more mistakes and concede.
