Ball watching defenders/switching issues

I don’t understand why my players are ball watching when it’s time to defend. If the opposing player is cutting inside my outside back will hug the line instead of following inside. At this late stage of the game, there are times where the opposing players are cutting inside again and my CB is going away from the direction. Not sure if anyone is having issues with switching the right players but I’ll have issues trying to switch to my defender or midfielder closest to defend and I’ll get switched to someone opposite of what I wanted.

    The switching was bad and got worse after the patch. I can’t seem to find any settings to rectify it. I’ve had several games now where because I couldn’t switch to the obvious defender/CB in the box,my opponent just walked a goal in.L1 v stick switching makes no difference, ball or player relative, classic or the other settings, nothing fixes it.
     Happens every few games. Lose balls and headers will happen and it just won’t switch either. 

    it’s either something dynamically changing in game 😉 or a big/connection issue.
