I think there are many factors that could contribute to your team not performing as it used to. Obviously if they fall below the power curve and your opponent plays a really strong team is the main one. But I find sometimes putting a slightly weaker team out in order to play objectives/evolutions causes my team to perform a bit better.
Yeah thanks... I switched around a bit (played SB a bit, partly also cos thats an easier way to clock some of my evo requirements)... do seem to at least start getting a few trickle of wins on rivals...
Recent rut aside... what I still don't understand is how, many of the other teams' AI players seem to be more intelligent than mine...
When I try to attack, as soon as I move the ball near the halfway line (could be on the flank or in the middle), the opponents will crowd out my player with the ball, and at the same time cut off my passing options (even the backward pass option), and I inevitably will lose the ball. If I manage to somehow work the ball to the opposing penalty area, there will be minimally 3 defenders already there, and again, I have no option or angle to pass or shoot.
When they attack, their players provide multiple passing options and make smart runs, while I painstakingly try to toggle between my static AI players to pull them into position to block passes, mark players, or close down the player with the ball, which is of course, not possible.
It isn't because they are using better players. I also try to pack my team with defenders and CMs with high def WR and high interception and defensive awareness but yet they don't defend as intelligently.
Doesn't seem to be custom tactics either. I've tried multiple things here, but nothing seems to achieve this. It isn't constant pressure either, cos, ⚽ their players don't end up more fatigued than mine, 🏈 the defending is really intelligent, and not simply hounding every player with the ball, and 🏀 they don't end up breaking their defensive line and get pulled out of position (i.e. when I get the ball to their penalty area, defenders are already well positioned there)
So what is it? What really makes the AI players behave that much more intelligently?

erm no... this is for the online modes, rivals, champs, etc... the opposing player's AI just moves around more intelligently than mine...

Ah ok! @v3ry_n00b
Well with regards to your players making attacking runs I find the best tips are to use Long Ball or Forward Runs tactic. You can assign player instructions to get in the box or get in behind but players attacking workrates and attacking position are very effective when high. Triggering runs manually is an excellent way to create a run also.
When your opponent is blocking you on the halfway line it's usually because they have stay back on defence instructions with cover centre on their cm's and cdm's and they are most likely playing at high defensive depth of 70+.
If you use pressure tactics instead of balanced your players will create gaps in your defence if your opponent can play through so better to remain solid as a team and play balanced defence, this will limit your opponents attacking run opportunities. Also if you commit a lot of your players to go forward in attack then you will create more attacking run options for your opponent.
I find that if I choose at least one fullback to attack or remain balanced going forward but has a high attacking workrate I can create an overload of my players on that side and play out of my opponents rigid defensive midfield and also create another attacking run for my team.
