Logging into UT kicks me back to Xbox menu

Exactly the same thing is happening to me since yesterday. I wonder if it's related to the disc drive as I've been having console issues recently where I have to eject the disc & sometimes reboot before the disc is recognized.
Other modes are playable, it's only when logging into UT the game crashes and kicks back out to the xbox main menu. Notable to me that the disc drive motor stops working at the same time.
