yes but all the players in div 5 will go with you. So the level will be the same  to start over you will have to create a new account and start from scratch....or wait till div 9 and 10 players catch up to div 8 if you want the level to decrease a bit. Most of us are stuck at div 6 and 5. Because highlevel players stay in div 5 because the higher divs are even more of a sweatfest

True... but not the whole story.

If someone spends a "Season" not playing rivals people around them will gradually go up and their opponents will get easier as long as they do not advance (you do kind of point this out).

I find this typically happens around June(ish) when loads of choice cards are achievable by objectives.  The game, in my experience, literally becomes unplayable at that point as the division is just full of people who don't belong there.  The last game I played was last June as I just gave up in frustration; I haven't touched it since or got the new game.

I am not sure how you can fix that.  The issue is people.  They are happy to create a miserable experience for others just so they can get their little card.  There isn't really a cure for that.

But i also agree with others you should not be looking to do that (division drop, as I said sitting out a "season" is basically the same as self relegation).  I am not sure how smashing noobs is a healthy thing for the game and community.  I honestly feel there are a subset of players who just go out of their way to make the match suck as much as possible for you.
