  • Robbie Keane has left his post as manager of Tottenham Hotspur with the London side joint top of the Premier League. It is understood that Keane who has been the manager since February this year and guided Tottenham to their first trophy in 17 years when they won the Europa League on penalties has had a number of disagreements with Daniel Levy and after a morning of lengthy meetings has agreed to leave the club. A statement from the Daniel Levy through the club read.

“I am disappointed to confirm that manager Robbie Keane and his assistant Rory Delap have both left the club. Robbie has recently declined the offer of a new contract and has made the club aware of his intentions to leave the club at the end of the current season. After a number of internal discussions the club made the decision that we are better to replace Robbie and bring a new manager in who would be committed to Tottenham for the long term in an effort to protect both the fans and the players from the uncertainty of who would be in charge moving forwards. I would like to place on record our thanks to both Robbie and Rory for their huge part in the club winning last seasons Europa League and for their hard work this season in helping the club compete at the top of the table.”

Robbie Keane is now expected to take a short break before any return to management.

  • FC Barcelona have completed the shock appointment of Robbie Keane as their new head coach. The cash strapped Spanish side are struggling in La Liga this season and find themselves outside the Champions League places in 6th place as they approach the winter break, 15 points off top of the table Atletico Madrid. The move has been heavily criticised by both fans and legends of Barcelona with Carles Puyol calling it a “cheap appointment and said winning the Europa League on penalties doesn’t mean your good enough for the Catalan club” whilst Victor Valdes said that Cesc Fabregas understands the club and the way is should play and he should have been given the opportunity.

Either way Barcelona have decided on Keane and he has put pen to paper on a 2 and a half year deal.

FC Barcelona released an interview with their new head coach

Q: Robbie welcome to FC Barcelona, how does it feel to be our new head coach?

Keane: I am over the moon I feel so privileged to be given the opportunity to manage such a big club and I can’t wait to get started. Obviously the players are currently enjoying a Christmas break but I can’t wait for them to return so we can get to work and turn this season around.

Q: Finally what can Barcelona fans expect from your style of play?

Keane: I believe the way I like my team to play and the way Barcelona fans like to see their teams play is very similar, my Tottenham team were known for being very solid defensively but we have also kept possession more than all our opponents this season and I believe the players here now our more accustomed to that style of play so look forward to seeing them implement that style

Did Spurs ever thank you for bringing them that UEL trophy (in real life)?

No appreciation. They didn't deserve you anyway.
