Manager career overwritten by player career

I had a manager career which I put 20+ hours into.

I then completed a player career, putting the guy at 49 as a joke and at the end of the season he retired, it then made me become a manager. 

When I tried to continue with my real Madrid manager career the save was not there, only the 'player career' one!! 

This is a joke! Does that mean I can't do both manager and player careers? Or even two manager careers as that is a major flaw in the game!
