Re: Homecoming - FC25 CM Story 2024 to 2026

FC København and FC Midtjylland both have a stronger economy and have reached a state where they generally pay more for their players - and receive more when they sell them. So Brøndby in the current state will have to settle with staying in the slipstream and hoping for both of them to make way for a surprise. This happened in 2021, before it almost happened last season too.

That was the case with Ajax, beginning in 2016 up until 2022. Under Overmars, the club changed tactics, expanded the salary structure which made it possible to sign on bigger players and bring in South American talent, that could be sold for big bucks later on. That would generate more money, access to better players, constantly performing in Champions League, better yield when selling players, which generates more money and so the circle goes on and on..., the sky's the limit. Overmars once said he wants to turn Ajax into the Bayern Munich of the Netherlands (champions 8/10 times, always in Champions League) - well: twice the pride, double the fall.

It was a great idea until it wasn't anymore - and it mysteriously disappeared with Overmars' dismissal in early 2022: you can't stay ahead forever and when the competition catches you (and as a consequence, you miss out on Champions League), traditionally big teams from smaller leagues could get into trouble, or even crises. Look at Ajax, look at Anderlecht, look at FC Basel: their success was based on Champions League participation. Meaning: failing to do so and you can no longer pay for your players, buy good substitutes, attract better staff and that means getting back into Champions League becomes much more difficult. Suddenly you're in a downward spiral and it's difficult to get out of one.
