How do the servers work?

I experience bad gameplay most of the time.

Online in rivals I’m always playing with a team stuck in the mud. In rush I seem to be the one player in every game who can’t tackle, gets caught as soon as I get the ball and certainly can’t swan about doing tricks like everyone else.

Im on 1 gib broadband with Xbox generally showing speeds above 300. No packet loss, low latency. 100 wireless.

Am I just connecting to EA through a particular server that then dictates what I get?

Do they monitor the performance of those servers? They seem to always show green tick but that can just mean they are working at the minimum.

Why do I keep paying for packets if my game can never be experienced properly?

Anyone else that just never gets the smooth gameplay even in rush?’

  • It comes down to how your isp routes you. If it was a server issue everyone in your rush game would experience an issue.

You might not see issues in other games as each game has different servers and locations. That’s why doing a normal speed test won’t show you actual results as those pick the nearest server and not game servers.

it hasn’t been p2p for a long time.

Agree. There is an outside influence beyond my Xbox and internet. Those are the things I can control.

When people say ‘it is your connection’ I take that to mean my internet set up. I know that is way above what I need to play this game and have no issues with any other online TV or gaming services.

So the ‘connection’ I get has to be influenced by how data goes back and forward to EA. It is this part of it  I would like to understand why I seem to have a much worse experience than others.

As I’ve said elsewhere rush is a big eye opener. There can be 7 players that can move freely and then there’s me!

Squad battles should have less interactions in theory outside my Xbox but the gameplay is still horrific.

    I don’t get it!

No, thats not true. It is not a peer to peer connection. EAS FC uses Game Data Centers so that the connection of other people does not influence your own gameplay. The respective Game Data Center is responsible for forwarding the game data to all participants in a game.

  • You don't connect to a server when you play the game, The server just sends the information,

The home team is the host and the away team is the client.

  • Its your connection if it’s a server issue they will post it.  Test it on here with the connection quality report and go to your match history. It will give you a better idea of your connection. Doing those normal speed tests are not going to give you an accurate test.
