Increasing stats is a bad idea apparently

So spending your perk points to increase your stats is apparently not a good thing in this game.

My 18 year old attacking midfielder can tuck the ball in the back of the net nicely with low shooting stats. My experienced striker with maxed out shooting stats either can’t hit the broad side of a barn or else shoots straight at the keeper. Same difficulty level, same slider settings, everything.
