Are you playing rivals? When the season ends it drops you down divisions. If you are just starting it’s based on your lowest rivals from last year. So those could be the reason you are in d7. Also matchmaking doesn’t account for team ratings.
Run 4231 and go offensive or defensive depending on the score.
