Post marked as solved by community managers

Hi to the forum managers!

I wonder why you mark posts as "solved" - when the cases are not solved at all?

  • Hey JGsorholt,

Locking the thread here to avoid turning it into a topic discussing moderation.

    • Commenting about moderation: Our moderators keep this place friendly and safe by enforcing the rules. If you think there's been a mix-up, let us know through the appropriate channels, not by blasting it on the boards.

That said, there are a couple reasons you may see a thread with a post marked as the solution:

    • The issue is over and the thread creator or a Community Manager flagged a post as the solution
      • Obvious enough in this case, the usual reason. A fix was issued or found, and that is flagged for future people to see.
    • The issue is happening again and a post has been marked as the solution
      • This may have been the solution last time an issue popped up, but it may be a different cause even if symptoms are similar. It's best to find or create a current thread if the previous solution is from a much older date.
    • The issue is still ongoing and a post has been marked as the solution
      • If a situation is still ongoing, we may mark a post as the solution even before the issue is fixed. In those cases we'll usually state that the post is Marked for visibility only or something similar.
      • This lets people find the most recent update to a situation without having to search or scroll through dozens of pages to see if there are any new posts. We don't consider these resolved, and just use the available "solution" feature to provide visibility.
