Team shape

I don't know why the team I play with cannot have compact defence. I tried nearly all sorts of tactics and formations but I ended up defending with only two or three players against the whole opponent's team. This happens to me so often in career mode on ps4. Is there any update or a tutorial to follow in order to solve this issue ?
