Controller doesn't work in online play

I'm playing on PC with an XBox controller. I can navigate menus and play the offline modes with no controller problems. As soon as I try to play Rivals or Friendlies, my XBox controller stops working. It will work for the first 15 match minutes and then stop. I can't move players. All button presses back up, so if I regain control of the ball, my players will pass it back and forth among themselves without me doing anything. 

I tried the solution from this thread: https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/Controller-doesn-t-work-online/m-p/14068386#M8025 and it didn't work for me.

If I turn off my controller and turn it back on midgame, I can get another 15 minutes of match time out of it before it stops responding again.

I shouldn't have to restart my controller 6 times to make it through a Rivals game. 

I've got 12 hours of gameplay in this thing and I'm trying to think of one hour when everything was working. 

Anyone have ideas?
