So, I bought the game for my 12yr old son last night. Got it home, installed it, updated it, logged in and, boom.... It didn't allow access to the EA servers. Spent ages messing around giving elevated privileges on the playstation for him. Couldn't work out what was going on.
Searching the internet I found this thread and slept on it overnight. I set him up with an 'older', separate account this morning and he is happily playing it, but he wants to play it with his existing account.
Got onto Playstation and EA support this afternoon. Playstation eventually 'hung up' the chat as we were going round in circles. EA was a little more productive, but ultimately got nowhere.
They said that he needs to be 13 or older to access the EA online servers. There is nowhere online or on the box that states this. He couldn't direct me to anywhere on their website, or any other website, with this information. I also pointed out that this thread provided evidence that it worked on a PS5 but not a PS4 for the same account. He said that things are different cross-platform. My response was that there is either an age-cap, or there wasn't, regardless of platform.
I also pointed out that the kids currently play Plants vs Zombies online, which is part of the EA catalogue. That was ignored. I think I eventually got the guy to escalate to their development team, although he could have just said that to get rid of me. I also copied and pasted a link to this thread in the conversation so they can find it easily.
He did say that the development team read these threads so someone might pick up on it by chance. He did say it was a playstation issue. I think regardless of whose issue it is the onus is on EA to work with Sony to find a resolution. It seems that these companies like to take our cash but are nowhere to be seen.
I am seriously annoyed with this. I won't be getting any more EA games until this is resolved. Anyone know the e-mail for the chief executive?
