I've faced this issue 4 times and every time I had to delete all game saves. But now it seems I've found a workaround that suits me, and I've been playing career mode without issues for a week now. Specifically, I use checkpoints, etc., but when I'm done playing and about to close the game, I delete the checkpoint so that when I exit the game, I only have save files. And this helps to solve the problem. Yes, it's quite inconvenient to delete the checkpoint every time before closing the game, you can forget for example, but if you do this, then at least it's possible to play career mode normally.
