The ping I get in Rivals nearly doubled after downloading new patch

Yesterday I was getting games at 40 ms which isn't great. I have good internet but am not located very close to an EA server. Today I load the game and there is a small update I am forced to download. I go straight into Rivals afterwards and every game is now upwards of 70 ms. Sometimes as high as 90. I played one game that felt smooth and one game that felt like utter dog crap where my players were slow and clunky, input delay, and my opponent could dribble circles around me and press me like they a full second advantage on connection. I have no idea what is going on, anyone else experiencing something like this. My internet didn't change at all.
