FC25 - Co-op not working? pressing and running

Is anyone experiencing this too, or is it just by default that it's not supposed to work the same way?

When I play alone I can hit the R1 and press with another player or hit it twice (hold down second time) for two man press. 

I can also call my team back or have them run deep by double tapping L1, 

I cannot do any of this when i play Co-op online with a friend. We are on the same team against opponents. is it just supposed to be that way, relying more on each other to make those runs and press rather than AI?
