The red folder to the players

This means they have no contracts/matches left. On your screenshot, it looks like Figo is a loan with 0 matches left. You can't really get rid of it on Loans.

But you can remove this red folder on standard players by applying contracts.

There is no option to apply contracts anymore, because EA have removed them completely in FC25.

You’ll only see it happen to loans, who you may as well discard, because they’re useless now.

So I understand that I can no longer use them in the Ultimate team
