It really just depends what happened. Was he hacked or banned? Did he change accounts or delete his team. If you unlink an account you lose all the progress. If he was hacked or a bug ea can help you. If it’s something that he did then they might not be able to recover it.
If you go to the ea help page it will explain more. If you think he was hacked support should try to help you with it.
Also check his emails see if he got any explanation.
