In another thread, we were discussing matchmaking with other users, and we asked for clarification on how it worked, which didn't seem entirely correct...

How does the matchmaking system work?
Divisions 10-1
Solo and Co-op matchmaking for Divisions 10-1 is based on three distinct factors:
Your position. This determines which EA SPORTS FC™ Game Data Center will be used for the match.
Your level. This means you will be competing against players with a similar skill level to yours.
Your platform. This factor is considered when cross-platforming ay is active.
Elite Division Matchmaking
The matchmaking system for the Rivals Elite Division is based on three distinct factors:
Your location and that of the EA SPORTS FC™ Game Data Center used for the match.
Your skill rating. You will challenge other players with a skill rating similar to yours.
Your platform. This factor is taken into account when cross-play is active.
I asked for a detailed explanation of how "LEVEL" works, but I received no response...
Anyway, in another thread, a user said that the criteria they use was the skill rating I wrote in the thread.
Okay, but what you don't see is that every competitive game has some form of the same system. Whether it's hidden or ranked, every game uses skill in some way to measure who you play, the key factor is how much they use it.
Playing in div 5 and the games I play are rather evenly spread, some I lose, some I win, and occasionally I draw. I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually using a form of engagement based matchmaking. Mainly because of the constant highs and lows, and partly due to the fact most companies do it because they all want your time.
I don't know how much you play the game but it's been this way for years now, I'm only playing casually so I'm not really caring where I end up anymore. Unfortunately none of us can change the way companies are set up, that's why I take time to play other games. It also makes the gameplay feel less frustrating because you aren't seeing it all the time.
I'm just giving my experience of how the game is, because I've had so many conversations with people that say there is no skill in the game now. It's frustrating because there is a clear skill gap and people just can't accept they aren't at thay level yet.
Look, I have a lot of time to play (I am a "young" pensioner:-D), but for the time I put in, I should get much more satisfying results...
Last year I was playing consistently in D6 and fighting for D5, this year I'm practically stuck in D9...

The MM system, the constant shuffling of the cards in the DR with demotions that affect all players, strong users with multiple accounts who enjoy trolling weaker users, are certainly not things that help our progression and unfortunately tend to drive us away from the game!I'm not saying they do help with the game, I'm just pointing out why they do what they do. Personally, I think there should be more protection for lower skilled players, and that's where something like skill based matchmaking should come in. Unfortunately, there are ways around such things, really it would make more sense if they had a system where you could report players that are clearly above their skill level. Rather than ban them they should be able to analyse them and determine if they are where they should be.
Systems like that take time, money, and probably man power to create so it's unlikely something that will happen. People in all games are affected by smurfs and the like, it's another side effect of their super cranked up matchmaking methods. Hopefully they do find some way to combat it though, as it kills the game. Personally, I find easily winning against worse players really boring most of the time, it wasn't fun when I was going up through rivals, it's boring as everyone just quits. I really don't get how people do it and enjoy doing such a thing.
The fact is that until last year there weren't any major problems with the MM...
I don't remember there being any complaints about it...
Maybe because there were so many checkpoints that even prevented you from going back...
This year they removed them practically everywhere and, lo and behold, the complaints started...
It wasn't a good initiative on EA's part in my opinion.
