Comprehensive Gameplay Feedback & Balance Report
Introduction
The gameplay foundation this year is genuinely solid and moves the franchise in a positive direction. It is not fundamentally broken, but it requires critical mechanical tuning and targeted adjustments to realize its potential. This report breaks down specific imbalances across passing, set pieces, defensive balance, and skill moves, while addressing patch philosophy for long-term stability.
1. Passing Mechanics & Through Ball Disruption
- Through Ball Pathing & Targeting: Ground through balls routinely route directly into opposing defender hitboxes instead of tracking into open space or targeting the active runner's stride.
- Unreliable Power Scaling: Pass power input exhibits severe variance. Fully-powered passes often exit unnaturally weak, whereas short, light-tap inputs occasionally generate erratic, high-velocity passes.
- Overpowered Crosses & Aerial Headers: Crossing trajectory speed and loft remain excessively powerful, pairing with overpowered headers to create automated, unpreventable scoring threats.
2. Set Pieces: Corner Kick Overhaul & Goalkeeper Mobility
- Lack of Trajectory Clarity: The set-piece trajectory lacks intuitive landing feedback, turning corners into blind guesswork.
- Landing Reticle Comparison (FIFA 17): Reintroducing a visible on-pitch ball drop marker—similar to the system implemented in FIFA 17—is vital to give players strategic control over target zones and synchronize runner arrival.
- Sluggish Goalkeeper Dead-Ball Movement: Adjusting the goalkeeper manually with the Right Stick during corner and free-kick setups feels overly heavy and delayed.
- Goalkeeper Stun & Aerial Exploits: Slight pre-kick goalkeeper movement frequently induces severe reaction delay, leaving keepers frozen while the ball is mid-air and allowing disproportionate conversion rates for both human and AI opponents.
3. Defensive Disparity & Offensive Over-Tuning
- Artificial Defensive Nerfs vs. Offensive Tool Buffs: Heavily toning down AI defensive awareness while stacking attackers with advanced tools has led to severe match disparity and inflated scorelines.
- Over-the-Top Pace Gaps: Attackers consistently blow past defenders in foot races behind the backline, making manual recovery runs ineffective even when using high-pace center-backs.
- Player Lock + Curved Runs Synergy: Combining Player Lock with manual Curved Runs completely overwhelms manual defending; a single player cannot cover two or three overlapping runners when teammate AI fails to adjust dynamically.
- Speed Boost & Analog Sprint Abuse: Sudden explosive speed boosts and analog sprint accelerations have returned aggressively, heavily punishing defenders despite upgraded defensive attributes.
4. Skill Moves (Right Stick Glitches): Chaining & Cancel Balancing
- Overpowered Strafe Dribbling Forcefield: Strafe dribbling is disproportionately strong, creating an artificial barrier or "invisible shield" between the attacker and defender that prevents defenders from getting close or executing clean standing tackles.
- Arcade Chaining & Input Spam: Right-stick skill moves can still be spammed consecutively with zero recovery windows, creating an arcade spectacle detached from realistic football.
- Glitchy Cancels & Defender Freezing: Skill move cancels and instant transitions trigger artificial stutter animations for defenders, breaking physical tackle collisions even when manual positioning is flawless.
- Proposed Remedies: Implemented mandatory input cooldowns between back-to-back right-stick commands, and apply exponential error scaling (ball-control degradation) if skills are chained without pausing.
5. Patch Philosophy: Stability Over Constant Seesawing
- Avoiding the Balancing Swing: Past titles suffered from continuous, reactive patch loops—over-nerfing defense, then over-buffing it, creating an unstable meta. Postponing massive, sweeping balance overhauls to preserve gameplay identity is a welcome decision.
- Critical Priority Exception (Passing Hotfix): While overall balance changes should take time, fundamental passing and through-ball reliability cannot wait. Football fundamentally relies on accurate ball distribution, and these core interactions warrant an immediate, standalone hotfix.
