FC 27 Needs Better Dribbling Balance, Not Just Manual Defending
EA has focused on making manual defending more important in FC 27, but there is another side of the problem that needs attention: attacking dribbling mechanics.
Players with Technical playstyles can keep the ball extremely close to their feet while walking slowly, repeatedly changing direction, and shielding the ball with their backs to defenders. In these situations, winning the ball can feel almost impossible, even when the defender is well positioned and the player times the challenge correctly.
Manual defending should reward anticipation, positioning, and timing. However, these skills lose their value when certain dribbling animations and shielding mechanics make the attacker too difficult to dispossess.
My suggestions:
- Balance close-control dribbling so that the ball is not unrealistically protected during slow movement and repeated direction changes.
- Make shielding dependent on body position, strength, balance, and the defender's positioning rather than allowing near-perfect protection.
- Introduce more realistic errors in ball control when players repeatedly change direction under pressure.
- Reward well-timed defensive challenges without making dribbling ineffective.
The goal is not to make defending easier or nerf skilled dribblers. It is to ensure that manual defending remains effective against every attacking playstyle.
How can manual defending be truly skill-based if certain dribbling mechanics can make the ball almost impossible to win back?
