FC IQ should add tactical freedom, not replace It
Player Roles are not inherently a bad idea. The problem is that FC IQ replaced individual tactical control instead of building on top of it.
Roles should work as presets. If someone wants a simple system, they can select Winger, False 9 or Attacking Wingback and play. But there should also be advanced instructions underneath those roles, allowing us to adjust things like work rates, positioning, width, runs, roaming, pressing and movement into the box.
Real footballers do not operate inside fixed zones. A winger can stay wide during build-up, but cut inside when receiving the ball and attack the far post when the attack comes from the opposite side.
FC IQ often forces us to choose between behaviours that should coexist. A Winger provides width but rarely attacks the box. An Inside Forward attacks the box but moves centrally too early. An Inverted Wingback moves into midfield but often stops making attacking runs. Adding more and more roles does not solve this problem.
Older FIFA games already gave us more control through work rates, base positioning and individual instructions. There is no reason FC IQ cannot combine those ideas with the current Role system.
This is especially unnecessary in offline modes, where competitive balance is irrelevant. Career Mode, Kick Off and Custom Tournaments should allow players to experiment and create their own tactical systems.
Don’t remove FC IQ. Finish the idea. Keep Roles as presets, but give us control over what happens underneath them. Let casual players choose a Role. Let tactical players build a system.
